Apple is Reportedly Working on Hi-Res Audio Streaming

Apple is working on hi-res audio streaming of up to 96kHz/24bit for release in 2016., reports Macotakara. The format would likely be used to stream Apple Music and would require headphones that use the Lightning port on an Apple device.

According to several insiders familiar with Apple, whose products are exhibited at PORTABLE AUDIO FESTIVAL 2015, the company has been developing Hi-Res Audio streaming up to 96kHz/24bit in 2016. The Lightning terminal with iOS 9 is compatible up to 192kHz/24Bit, but we do not have information on the sampling frequency of Apple Music download music.

Notably, there have been some rumors that Apple is looking to drop the headphones jack on the iPhone 7 in favor of just using the Lightning port. This would free up precious space inside the already very thin device.

Manufacturers are already starting to make use of the higher quality output on the Lightning port. For example, the Audeze EL-8 Titanium Closed-Back Headphones offer superior performance for both your music and voice calls thanks to a headphone amplifier and 28-bit DAC built into the Lightning cable.

Can peoples ears really tell the difference. The longer headphone are listened to it high volumes cause tinnitus. Their is nothing like sleeping and thinking your house alarm is going off or the doorbell is ringing. This is to be one of the most annoying things you have to deal with it. These articles talk a great of these products. The problem is you never discussed the dangers the loud volumes and higher pitched sounds do to your ears. Tinnitus sucks.

Great! Hopefully Apple will push the frequency range to match the upper limits of other brands hi-res audio. Can you imagine the possibilities? Does this mean that photos (audio tag) and video will have access to these features? What about my phone calls, will this be used over the cel network. What about Ted Talks, school lectures, Khan Academy? Happy holidays everyone;)

Hi-Rez? No such thing. Sound does not have resolution. Hi-Def? Much better term as sound does have definition.

Yes there is lol. There are headphones that require an amp because of how much power they require.

What's the point? Apple will just remove the headphone jacks anyway

The sounds will be much clearer and head more of what was used to make the song like instruments. At least we can still hope Apple will release more versions of iPhone 7.
