Leaving the iTunes Store Open on Your MacBook Kills Your Battery Life

Leaving the iTunes Store Open on Your MacBook Kills Your Battery Life

If your MacBook battery life is draining quickly, check to make sure you didn't leave an iTunes Store page open, warns Kirk McElhearn.

The MacWorld writer noticed that the iTunes Store uses an enormous amount of CPU to simply display a front page, and rotate graphics in the carousel at the top of the page.

McElhearn posted screenshots of his laptop with the iTunes Store open and playing a song at 18% CPU use, compared to just playing the song at 5% CPU use.

Lest you think that a lot of the CPU that iTunes is using is to play that Allman Brothers song, here’s what happens if I switch out of the iTunes Store. Together, iTunes and coreaudiod, which processes audio played by iTunes or other apps, use about 7% of CPU.

Troll days are over! Apple would have to be completely braindead to give up like that, but what are the odds after the effort they are still putting effort into compared to past versions? iOS 9 has done some serious work even by ram standards.
