Samsung Announces New Gear S2 Smartwatch Editions, iOS Support Later This Year

Posted January 6, 2016 at 12:40am by iClarified
Samsung today announced two new editions of its Gear S2 classic smartwatch, one encased in 18K Rose Gold and another in Platinum. In addition, the company announced that it will update the smartwatch with iOS support later this year.

“In 2015, we set a new standard with the Gear S2 in smart wearable category. We broke barriers to introduce one of Samsung’s most progressive wearable devices to date,” said Younghee Lee, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics. “In 2016, we will continue to raise the bar, so that we can deliver products that our customers want most.”

The new Gear S2 classic will include NFC technology to offer Samsung Pay, which will be available to Gear S2 users early this year starting in the United States. Samsung is also expanding its line of watch straps and watch face options. The company partnered with exclusive designers, such as Colombo, on premium watch straps for the Gear S2, and has introduced fun and creative watch faces including Peanuts characters and artworks from Keith Haring, Jean-Michael Basquiat, Jeremyville and Burton Morris.

Availability:
The new Gear S2 classic will be available in Rose Gold case with an Ivory Genuine Leather Band and in Platinum case with a Black Genuine Leather Band beginning in February.

I agree with sAss. From what the recent iPhone quote said- the only thing that changed is everything shows how face lifted it has gotten this year for an s model, but whether how people go crazy for Apple or not, it's that we still see them as if they don't stop. Think of it like T-Mobile since the first uncarrier. That's exactly how I always look forward to the next iPhone. I wouldn't like it without sarcastically trying. I'm a chick to and I find iPhone a fashionable powerful piece of technology. It's like showing off a game console with rare material in it.

You do know that apple is still expanding stores with Apple Pay. Say what you want about how certain it is but as least it's secured compared to how open Samsung pay is. That's why they tried to expand it, plus in terms of how good looking s6 and iPhone is, I can understand antenna lines and all but I find rose gold a cool glamorous blend between pink and gold. Real innovation on the other hand comes from people who actually make new ideas or get it right. Just because Samsung made it work the exact same way and works at more places doesn't mean nothing. It's like saying you take the same game and change the graphics to work better on other consoles and claim it innovation when another game has better coding on it to prevent crashes or frame drops etc. NFC also is what was done right before it was copied. I can go into detail on that but again it's just as executed as I mentioned with Apple Pay. iPhone itself, come on! The interface was changed since iPhone 5s was introduced. It's like you remember iPhone but have forgotten about the old interface. It's almost like you're trying to make an excuse! As you mentioned about thin glass on the other hand, it doesn't change if all you do is barely put a curve on it. Doesn't that get in the way of trying to hold the sides? Or to be extra clear on that, why was there a purpose doing it? I can just turn the sound off and push notifications to my other device if I didn't want to see it on my phone anyway, and also there exists cases that lights the kind of message you can see on it all without having to push it to the edge of the display. That so-called innovation is just a rearrangement. In fact you can see every bit of the content on a screen at a far angle compared to curved screen. Most things will look like it's stretched out a bit. LG recently announced a tv display you can actually roll up! That's how you innovate curved display! It's bendable without messing anything up and can be adjusted. Think about having to make it easier to fit or not risk breaking it when dropped all compared to s6 screen. That phone just makes it easier to crack and maybe wrecking the inside of the display. It defeats the purpose! I never even mentioned this before, but for crying out loud, sAss is as right as a preacher! It's not like a company is forcing you to stay limited, but the phone you buy is yours which means you can do ANYTHING with it. There's a reason that's still mentioned to this day all because of jailbreak. Sure modern iPhones can force update but there are old phones that stay on old versions which has had jailbreak for years. My point being is that jailbreak has thousands of things to make your phone to do anything even if it means customizing the gestures you want it to do, effects the apps do, and open bigger access within the apps, and much more and from what I have done with it for so long, it can do whatever you want with it! This is just another example of how apple perfected the phone and how ahead they are even by ram alone (watch the speed tests and you'll see). Samsung may have made phones before apple, but that doesn't excuse when they moved on just because apple reinvented it. Plus, Samsung was just making the phones that were just as the same as any other phone back then way before iPhone. Think of it as living the same life every day like everyone else then a new guy shows up only to make their lives better. That new guy is the phone of 2007 that changed everything living up to this day.

Keep in mind that I mentioned Apple Pay is still expanding on more than just stores and has started to grow big in the first few months after release, so what if you can't use it as much as Samsung pay, this is why you can jailbreak because like I previously covered, jailbreak can do ANYTHING. I said it once and I'll say it again, Apple isn't forcing you or prevent you to not jailbreak. The phone you paid for is something you can do with it because it's yours now. There's bells and whistles I can guaranteed if you can just see for yourself. Say what you want about blackberry being more secure, it still doesn't change the fact that android still has it's flaws and isn't close to being as good as iOS or blackberry mobile. iOS only has minor security flaws, but can still do anything blackberry can't even by where it stands nowadays and with everything I covered with it previously. Go into detail all you want about camera and screen display. I can put my face up on any iPhone and it will still look crystal clear. It's one thing to make a phone look clear enough, but for a phone display, it's another to have too much that will just make two, phone screen the same. It's like trying to put more resolution in screen display when it already looks crystal clear from a certain distance. The same case goes for the camera. Better sensor while keeping the same megapixels not only spares more memory despite iPhone 6s being a 12mp, but to just cram a lot in it when it already looks like a professional camera makes a little difference in terms of noise. When it comes to iTunes, why can't you just buy a wireless hub if you want an alternative? I heard iPhones work with that in order to use sad cards, he'll there's even an adapter for an sd card that works with lightning, but it is too much trouble to actually try to transfer files from iTunes to sd card? I can handle that just fine because of how quick this process I use to makes this worth the pain to sit through. Not enough for ya? Did you even know that google play has an iOS app that transfers from android. I wouldn't say you're completely locked down even by this app's standards! Sure you may have to go through jailbreaking process in order to get it to work the way you want it, sure it's not out of the box and all, but the interface hasn't been the same since DAY ONE if you actually compare the current iPhone you have with an old one that doesn't run iOS 7 or later! I'll admit Samsung phones look decent, but the 5s ones are actually okay. Just wait until the iPhone 7 comes. It's going to get rid of those antenna lines while the antennas are still there, just hidden.

Offering iOS support in a watch by a company that treated apple products like a failure and can win my feelings back? No fcking thanks.
