Apple is installing metal detectors at the entrance to WWDC, a first for the event.

Nick Frey, co-founder & developer of @WorkflowHQ, shared a photo of the metal detectors being set up on Twitter.

Metal detectors going up. That’s a first. #WWDC16

The added security measure follows a shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florido by Omar Mir Seddique Mateen, a 29 year old that pledged allegiance to the Islamic State. The shooting claimed the lives of at least 50.

Apple CEO Tim Cook addressed tragedy on Twitter:

And exactly what would this accomplish? Anyone hellbent on killing many people at once would just wait for the security lines to start backing up and just walk up and start shooting then. Since everyone would be corralled into lines waiting, it would make them an easy target just as if they were inside. This kind of security theater bullshit stops nothing and these attacks won't subside until you sheep start fighting back instead of cowering down.

It would accomplish that people know how to fight back and learn from history.

Honestly I think this should be implemented at all public events.
