Netatmo has unveiled a new Smart Smoke Alarm that features Apple HomeKit support.

The Netatmo Smart Smoke Alarm is a smoke alert system you can always count on. Whenever the alarm is set off it sends real-time alerts direct to your smartphone, so you can take action even when miles from home.

Enhanced home security
If it detects smoke in the house, the Netatmo Smart Smoke Alarm triggers an 85dB alarm and sends a real-time alert to the user's smartphone. The user receives a notification identifying the room in which the smoke was detected: "Smoke detected in the kitchen".

The user knows at once if there is smoke in their house. They can immediately contact a neighbour or the fire department, to stop the fire spreading; or escape if they’re in the house themselves.

The user can install as many Smoke Alarms as they want, and can access them from their Netatmo Security App. Each detector can be named on the basis of its location ("Kitchen Smoke Alarm" or "Kids' Bedroom Smoke Alarm" etc).

The 85dB signal, if triggered, can be switched off manually or from the App.

Long-life battery and self-check function
The Netatmo Smart Smoke Alarm is powered by a 10-year battery, which equates to the recommended service life of smoke detectors.

The long-life battery guarantees reliable operation for 10 years, so there's no risk of the Smoke Alarm's battery being flat when a fire breaks out. Before the Netatmo Smoke Alarm reaches the end of its recommended 10-year service life, it sends a notification to the user's smartphone reminding them to change it.

Thanks to its self-check function, the Smoke Alarm runs on-going checks to make sure it is working properly. It sends weekly reports that can be consulted on the App.

Compatible with HomeKit and IFTTT
The Netatmo Smart Smoke Alarm will be compatible with Apple HomeKit.

Apple HomeKit enables an array of connected devices in the home to collaborate with each other. The user controls their connected devices and can view their data via the Apple Home App and on the locked screen of their iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.

With HomeKit, the user can also create customised scenarios to connect their Netatmo Smart Smoke Alarm to other smart home devices. For example, they’ll be able to connect their smart lighting to their Netatmo Smoke Alarm. The lights will turn on in the house if a fire is detected. The family will be alerted and will be able to leave the house quickly.

The user can activate these scenarios with a simple gesture on their Apple Home App.

The Smoke Alarm is also compatible with IFTTT, a platform that allows the user to connect hundreds of services together. With IFTTT, the user connects the data from their Netatmo Security App – which controls the Smoke Alarm – with other devices, Apps and services. The user can program customised rules or combinations of actions called "Recipes" to automate and control different aspects of their connected home. For example, they can receive an emergency call in the event of fire.

Installation and certifications
The Smoke Alarm is a wireless device and connects automatically to the home Wi-Fi network via the App. The installation is quick and easy: the Smoke Alarm just needs to be screwed to the wall or ceiling, following the installation recommendations included in the pack.

The Netatmo Smoke Alarm is CE and NF certified.

In compliance with the applicable regulations, a red LED flashes discreetly every 10 seconds to show that the Smoke Alarm is working properly. If it detects any smoke, it starts flashing more quickly.

Availability
The Smart Smoke Alarm will be available in the second half of 2017.
