Apple is Testing a 5th Generation Apple TV With 4K Support

Apple is testing a new fifth generation Apple TV that features 4K support and more vivid colors, according to a Bloomberg report.

The new Apple TV is internally codenamed "J105" and could be released as soon as this year. With sales of the Apple TV decreasing year over year due to strong competition from Amazon and Roku, Apple may be renewing its focus on the device. Recently, it hired Timothy D. Twerdahl, former head of Amazon's Fire TV, to head up its television operations.

Apple has long been trying to revolutionize how we watch television; however, failed negotiations with media companies resulted in the Apple TV functioning a lot like a big iPhone. "That's not what I signed up for," says a Bloomberg source. "I signed up for revolutionary. We got evolutionary."

With the hiring of Twerdahl, his predecessor Pete Distad may be freed up to take another crack at negotiating a skinny bundle.

BTW You can add Kodi in the AppleTV 4, but ATV4 does not come close to NVIDIA Shield, it is by far the best media steaming box.

Yes it can be added but only for seven days or max one year if you have a developer account. There are loads of other streaming boxes but if you already have an iPhone or iPad and love Apple products, it would make sense for Apple to move with the times and keep up with the competition. I think in reality they will never officially support Kodi as they want people to purchase or rent movie streams from them.

As Amazon already sell a 4K box where consumers can add apps like Kodi, Apple really need to up their game. As a loyal Apple fan even I have toyed with replacing my box with one that would actually get the use I hoped for with Apple TV.
