Powermat CEO: Apple Announced Wireless Charging as 'Standard Feature' for the Next iPhone

Posted April 25, 2017 at 6:38pm by iClarified
Elad Dubzinski, CEO of Powermat, says that Apple announced wireless charging as a 'Standard Feature' for the next iPhone, in a recent press release announced Dan Stone as Powermat's Chairman of the Board.

"With the recent announcement by Apple that wireless charging will become a standard feature in the next iPhone, we are finally at the threshold of mainstream adoption," said Mr. Dubzinski. "Dan Stone has a proven track record of success and is uniquely qualified to help guide Powermat to the next level of service delivery. Under his guidance, CompuCom has enjoyed a reputation for delivering unparalleled IT support for enterprise clients and their end users. We look forward to benefitting from his experience and guidance."

It's unclear exactly which 'recent announcement' Dubzinski is referring to as Apple has not publicly announced wireless charging as a feature of the next generation iPhone. Apple did recently join the Wireless Power Consortium behind Qi and is now being listed as an official member on their website; however, that's hardly announcing wireless charging as a standard feature for its upcoming smartphone.

Wireless charging is rumored as a key feature of the iPhone 8 and Apple is said to have at least five groups working on different wireless charging technologies.

Earlier today a report suggested that Apple was having overheating issues with the new wireless charging modules which could contribute to delayed release. Let's hope wireless charging is a 'standard feature' as Dubzinski indicates!

Go read the patient apple just filed. Article on Redmond pie. Same thing I had just mentioned.
Huh?

There are all kinds of patents for things that are not commercially viable, or even technologically possible yet. I know it sounds exciting, but pulling electricity out of the air is far far away in the future. If you read articles on this subject, you will learn.

The only problem with wireless charging is,.. ya still need to plug the charger. Either way it has to be plugged in.
Really! Wow!

Holy crap! Oh wait, I had that on my S7 Edge & now my S8+ . Nevermind. Wonder why they're not the most expensive company any longer (not to mention not the most selling smart phone brand). Ouch.

Apple is always late, but still earns most of the profit. So it's better to be late.

Just curious do we know if that wireless charging that works up to 15 ft away can work threw aluminum? It would have to some otherwise you should have to have the back of your phone facing the base at all times for it to work. From the rumors that's the type apple is mostly pushing toward so maybe it uses that aluminum to actually catch the wireless charge. Nokia patented a wireless charging tech a long time ago that used the cellular waves to pull energy and charge so if that's how this works it could just need exposed antenna bands which it will have and the phone can have an aluminum shell.
Huh?

Huh? WTF are you talking about? None of what you're saying is even close to having commercial applications yet. Wireless charging as used here just means you don't have to connect the phone to a cable, but you will have to put it on a charging mat or base.

Plus aluminum can't "catch" a charge, whatever that means... as David pointed out, aluminum cannot carry a charge. Dude...

Aluminum cannot support any wireless cell phone charging...15feet away or otherwise ..blocks energy transfer
Great!

Why are you assuming the new iPhone will have an aluminium back?

Nokia had it working back in its day and apple just filed a patient that's pretty much the exact same thing that I was saying. No need for a glass back if your charging threw frequency.
