U.S. to Intervene in Apple Tax Dispute With the EU [Report]

The United States government has reportedly filed to intervene in Apple's tax dispute with the European Commission, reports Reuters.

In August of 2016, the European Commission ruled that Ireland granted illegal tax benefits to Apple and must recover the unpaid taxes from Apple for the years 2003 to 2014 of up to €13 billion, plus interest. More details on the decision here.

Apple is fighting the order, as is Ireland, who said, "The Government fundamentally disagrees with the European Commission’s analysis and the decision left the Government no choice but to take an appeal to the European Courts".

A source now tells Reuters the the U.S. government is getting involved...

"I can confirm the United States filed an application with the European Union General Court to intervene in the case involving the retroactive application of state aid rules to Apple," said the source, who declined to be named because of the sensitivity of the matter. The General Court is expected to hear the case in late 2018.

Ireland, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Starbucks, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and several other companies are also fighting EU orders to pay back taxes.

No, Apple has to learn to pay their fair share of tax. iPhones are getting more and more expensive and they don't even pay their taxes?!

How much tax do think Apple already pays? And that's not enough?! Besides, corporate taxes are stupid anyway. It all filters down to the consumer. Companies won't just accept it an take a smaller profit. Why don't liberals get this?

I think Apple is liberal and not republican and they should lower their prices on phones as long as they figure out this so called "loopholes", but why if they can make more money and give little to their customers, anyway they will buy their products ...
