South Korean Consumer Group Files Criminal Complaint Against Apple Over iPhone Slowdown

Posted January 19, 2018 at 5:37pm by iClarified
A South Korean consumer group has filed a criminal complaint against Apple CEO Tim Cook over the secret slowdown of iPhone devices, reports Reuters. The company is already facing around 50 class action lawsuits and multiple investigations related to the slowdown of iPhone devices with degraded batteries.

The advocacy group, Citizens United for Consumer Sovereignty, is accusing Apple of destruction of property and fraud.

“For the sake of its loyal fans, Apple has to take responsibility over the slowing iPhones,” Park Soon-jang, an official at the advocacy group told Reuters by phone on Friday.

Earlier this month, the group filed a civil damage suit against Apple representing about 120 plaintiffs.

In a recent interview, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced that an upcoming software update will allow users to turn off iPhone throttling; although, as we noted, this does nothing to address the problem that is causing the unexpected shutdowns.

Below are links to replacement batteries for each iPhone below for those who want the performance boost of a new battery but can't have Apple perform the replacement for whatever reason (timing, jailbreak, location, etc).

Reuters also reports that yesterday Italy's antitrust body opened a probe into allegations that Apple and Samsung are using software updates to slow their mobile phones and push clients into buying new handsets. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.

What about the Apple Watch (aluminium version) which is painted plastic instead of aluminium?

Apple doesn’t make the battery, and that’s she he way battery technology works so you can’t blame Apple for the issue. The only thing Apple overlooked was communication to their staff at their Apple stores and to a lesser extent, the public. I think their move to slow down the phone is an interesting solution to stopping the battery from crashing you phone. Lesson learned, now go out and buy yourself a battery and stop complaining.

Thing is, Apple is trying to make a buck out of the battery fiasco instead of free battery replacements. They're bound to provide us all with the best experience they can deliver, this was a betrayal to the user: their customers. Hope a lot more suits and government agencies join the train, serves them right for their sneaky, shady practices.

Nonsense. All of these suits will be dismissed. There simply is nothing there. Just some greedy lawyers thinking the they can make a buck when Apple settles with them. The reality is that due to the number of suits, Apple can't afford to settle, so they will simply watch every suit collapse.
