HomePod to Get Software Updates via Home App

HomePod to Get Software Updates via Home App

Posted January 31, 2018 at 3:18am by iClarified
A new report from 9to5Mac says that users will be able to update the software on their HomePod via the Home app.

The app will alert users when a new software update is available and will show an interface similar to the one used for iOS updates. Users will have the option to enable automatic updates, although it’s unclear how those will be managed. Updates can be installed on a single HomePod, all HomePods in the home or to specific stereo pairs (stereo pairing will not be available on HomePods running different software versions).

The HomePod is currently available for pre-order and will be released on February 9th. At launch it won't support stereo pairs or multi-room audio; however, the site notes that Apple appears to have hardcoded iOS 11.3 as the first version to support stereo pairing.

We'll have more details once the HomePod arrives. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.
