The concept was created by Alvaro Pabesio, a marketing student at the University of Navarra.

The new design of macOS 11 is based on a desire of taking an experience and making it better. Making it even simpler, more useful, and more enjoyable - but still feel instantly familiar. This is a new chapter for macOS.

The keys on the first row is the control center so it makes sense not to have the iOS control center for a reason (mission control = multitasking, hence you always could have two windows open at a time, the brightness settings are on the keys, wifi is always there in the top screen of the bar no matter what window you're in, just to name a few.
