How to Unlock iPhone 2.0 Beta Using PwnageTool (Mac)

Posted April 3, 2008 at 5:41pm by iClarified
These are detailed instructions on how to unlock your iPhone 2.0 Beta Firmware using PwnageTool for Mac OS X.

Before you do this you must have access to the 2.0 Beta Firmware. Only do this if you have authorized access.

WARNING: There is no Installer.app for 2.0 Beta Firmware yet. You will not be able to install applications from Installer. SSH however has remained functional for me!

Step One
Follow the instructions to Pwn your iPhone using 1.1.4. These instructions can be found here

Make sure you install BSD Subsystem and OpenSSH from installer once you are done.

Step Two
Double click PwnageTool to launch the application again from your Desktop.

A window will appear in which you should choose the .ipsw file for the firmware you would like to unlock then click the Open button.

Step Five
Click the IPSW Builder button in PwnageTool.

There is a much easier way with a guarentee, help, and upgrades that last for life: https://paydotcom.com/r/47886/cntbtched/19965251/ i found this and used it and found that although it does cost $24 you are not dissapointed because you no longer have to go on blogs to find hacks like i once did, but in fact the $24 gives you a lifetime membership to all future upgrades you might need as the iphones get even better! So check this out, its alot more reliable than the pwnage tool for the 2.0, ive done both.

It's been working great for me SSH works but I don't have the password. Not that I need it anyway Cisco VPN and Exchange do work as well And you can go back to 1.1.4 , just pwnage a 1.1.4 firmware and put your iPhone in Restore mode. Enjoy~!

Ok, I have tried to go up to 1.2. It did work (also with another carrier). I tried the exchange sync and I have to say; Its very BUGGY. I think we need a couple of more betas. It didn't work 100% (more 20%). So if you want to upgrade just for the exchange sync, dont do it, not worth for now. With pwnage i did get back to 1.1.4 without any problem.

Quick question. I Ziphone'd my 16 iPhone and it is working fine. I used the older 2.6 version to unlock and activate it. It naturally downgraded the BL from 4.6 ro 3.9. If I use the Pwnage Tool will it revert my BL back to 4.6 and will I run any risk of using one tool (Pwnage) over anotehr tool (ZiPhone), i.e. damaging my phone, etc.... Also will I need to do a restore via iTunes so that I can use the Pwnage Tool? Thanks in advance.

@portalpie, in theory yes you are able to revert back to the 1.1.4 version, but only if you dont brick your phone/pod (which is not very likely) @kiran, true, the beta version sucks without any tools! def wait til the ipswtool is released and we can install programs right from itunes til then just wait or try it out for yourself
Kiran
Kiran - April 3, 2008 at 10:11pm
Guys, it is suggested you wait till devs work on th revised toolchain. Only devs are suggested tot ry 2.0 beta... Once ipswtool is released then we can really pwnage!.!!

Like I have seen some others ask... Is it possible to downgrade back to 1.1.4 if you have upgraded to 2.0 beta? thanks
