Warning: Do Not Update to iTunes 9.1.1 If You Want UL Jailbreak

Posted April 28, 2010 at 3:10am by iClarified
MuscleNerd from the iPhone Dev Team is warning users who are hoping to use a userland jailbreak for the iPad, iPhone, or iPod to hold off on updating to iTunes 9.1.1.

Today's 9.1.1 iTunes is safe for PwnageTool&redsn0w. But those hoping to use userland JBs (like Spirit) should hold off.

In general, those using *any* userland JB should avoid iTunes updates, since iTunes can detect & remove it.

It is widely expected that the "Spirit" userland jailbreak by comex will be the first jailbreak to be released for the iPad. Spirit also provides an untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 3GS and iPod touch.

Is it definite that 9.1.1 won't work with this jailbreak? If so, is there a downgrade guide anywhere?

{{ If so, is there a downgrade guide anywhere?}} Why you need a downgrade, when the post stated DO NOT UPDATE TO 9.1.1. As simple as that. Cheezzzzzzzzz

I've never had issues with iTunes not working completely with my jailbroken phone (unless it was organizing my apps in iTunes with Categories installed.) So is there a way to downgrade?

If you inadvertently upgrade iTunes to 9.1.1 and you change your mind, just uninstall it. Then got to http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.php where you can download any version of iTunes and install it in it's place. I suggest V 9.0.13.

How about BlackRa1n and Sn0w? Not quite sure what a userland JB is. I think he just likes making up words.

Userland refers to the level on which the jailbreak is installed. 'Spirit' is a userland jailbreak which is just installed onto basic memory with the firmware files. This is the least valuable type of exploit. Geohot's exploit for his latest jailbreak is an iboot exploit. This is a lower level jb and allows some extra functions. And then there are the bootrom exploits. these are the ones that make iphones pwned for life.

So... does that mean it breaks BlackRa1n or doesnt?

that is my concern... if they tested, if this is working, why they do not release the JB??? I mean what they are waiting for??? and also, this means that 9.1.1 fixed the exploit, so...how does apple got it???? anyway, today is 29 and still no JB alive just promises and looks like the wind will take the dust.. AGAIN

the other guy had a point, we get told that a jailbreak is imminent, nothing comes out, then we get told not to update iTunes 9.1.1, which fixes alot of functionality on OS 4.0 beta's. The exploits will get plugged, there's no doubt about it. However, if SHSH files are backed up via umbrella, there's nothing to stop the jailbreak being released. So calm down and let people have their say.

I think its about time I start using another name on here... Maybe this is why I get bashed so much! Maybe iClarified should make a mandatory log in.

The reason they haven't released it is because once it's released then Apple will patch it. And the 3G iPads haven't even come out yet. So, after the 3G iPads come out, and they see that it works on it, then they will release. We can't leave our poor old buddies who waited for a 3G iPad out it the dust, now can we... Also, Apple hasn't patched it with 9.1.1 but there is a POSSIBILITY that a userland jailbreak won't work.

Does this still have the same problem for the teathered jailbreak for 3GS and Ipod touch 3G using Blackra1n.
