So today I updated my iphone 3gs from iOS 6.0.1 to 6.1.2 thinking I had factory unlocked device, as it comes out it was somehow unlocked in other way. Because now when I insert my SIM it searches for network and after a while says no service. Help please.

I too faced the same problem. When I updated my iphone 3gs to 6.1.2 it got locked . So to avoid these kinds of problems in future is searched for a permanent unlock solution . After a lot of research i found that using remote unlock service will unlock the iphone 3gs permanently. Again I searched for low cost remote unlock service and found it in SimpleUnlocking.com . Remote unlock works on all iOS and baseband versions . They also provide Remote Unlock Service for other models of iPhones(GSM) like iPhone,iPhone 3G,iPhone 4,iPhone 4S,iPhone 5.

Hi there, I have exactly the same as your problem, I updated 3GS BB 06 .15.00 from IOS 4.1 to 6.1.2 using sn0wbreez 2.9.11, i thought it's factory unlocked but no Service,
I tried to reinstall mobile substrate and ultrasn0w to unlock but no luck, I think now I just have to pay around 100$, to unlock this Canadian 3GS ,
Any other thoughts ? Because I googled for hours now with no luck...!

"https://github.com/iH8sn0w/sn0wbreezedl/archive/master.zip" this link is sn0wbreeze 2.9.11 and use this jailbreak tool if you cannot use sn0wbreeze watch videos from youtube. Goodluck.

Thanks! Gave it a try but My issue is the latest version of redsnow isn't accepting any ios 6 Ipsw version. Tried 6.0.1, 6.1, 6.1.1, 6.1.2 and none of them worked. Which do I use?

If your iPhone 3GS's baseband were 06.15.00 downgrade your baseband to 05.13.04 using redsn0w's "downgrade from iPad's baseband" then install ultrasn0w using Cydia.

I just managed to work things right for same model and firmware update:
Follow these steps:
1.Restore your iphone 3gs with itunes to 6.1.2
2.Use redsnow 0.9.15b3 to jailbreak ==> Extras===> Select ISPW====>Select===> Restore.ispw====> Select OK===> Back====>Jailbreak====> Only select insyall ipad baseband and NOT cydia.
3. After Completion your iphone will be activated. Wait more steps.
4. Download Evasi0n and run the tool with your iphone 3gs attached.
5. Dont do anything and let it again jailbreak 6.1.2
6. Once Done you would get Cydia on the homepage.
7. Open cydia and install source: repo666.ultrasn0w.com
8. Install ultrasn0w on iphone 3gs from cydia.
9. Your iphone 3gs is unlocked and any sim is activated.
10. Do a network setting reset again later for steady Network.
11. Done Cheers!

I've already tried it, with Ultrasn0w and Ultrasn0w fixer for 6.1, unfortunately it doesn't work

Hello coupe of things here to talk about:
1) did you previously have Cydia installed on your device?
if you did it seems to me that you have i unlocked by ultrasnow
2) Do you have Cydia installed now?
if you do have Cydia installed you can try to add the ultrasnow unlock and the ultrasnow fixer i can see that your are on the ipad baseband so its worth the try ....
Let me know how it goes...
