OMG OMG Apple really needs to worry now. Get the f*** out of here. The Windows PC is damn near extinct, wake up people we are in the post-PC era. Microsoft keeps complaining that iPad doesnt run Microsoft Office, well lets think about the average consumer for a minute: The main reason iPad is popular is because the average consumer doesnt want to carry around a huge ass laptop for small computing things such as Facebook, Internet browsing, Checking email. This is why laptops arent selling anymore because its so much easier to pick up a small iPad to do small tasks. The average consumer doesnt use Microsoft office on a day to day basis! If you are using microsoft office for school or work what type of sense would it make to be typing large documents (important ones I would assume) on a small ass screen such as a tablet as opposed to a normal desktop/laptop? iPad doesnt need microsoft office, Apple isnt losing 1$ to the fact that it doesnt have microsoft office, nobody has time to sit there and type for hours on end on a damn iPad. Think about what your saying Bill Gates, the only reason they are attacking the iPad is because its the great white shark in the market right now eating all competitors. HP is losing millions in PC sales due to iPads, simply because the average consumer doesnt need desktop functionality on a tablet, all they use it for is small things such as games, Facebook, twitter, pinterest, browsing the web, checking email. Apple knows exactly what they are doing as opposed to Microsoft whose marketing team can only come up with one idea: attack Apple. Apple is the most valuable company in the world, they have nothing to worry about with a small guy named Bill Gates. The value of iPhones/iPads/iPod stays firm regardless of how many owners it has been through. Windows computers are collecting dust while Apple products are flying off the shelves. Kindle Fire, Google tablet, Windows tablet none of these can compare to the iPad no matter what angle you look at it, the iPad reigns supreme to its competitors.

What would you say Apple's most innovative year was? Because if you are looking at strictly the R&D budget to determine how innovative a company is, then 2013 should be the most innovative the company has ever been. With their R&D budget nearly exceeding $4 billion (back in 05 it was only $500 million) it's obvious that they are in fact researching new innovative ideas. Patents are set up to help companies get value out of their research and development, but if other companies violate those patents, the patents become less valuable and therefore the incentive to innovate is minimized. Since Apple is widely regarded as the most powerful brand in the world (contrasting what you believe), I don't see why it is such a big deal that they are suing companies for violating the patents that will help them stay the most powerful.

Maybe once you're out of business in the "Florida Natural" oranges market you can start growing "SweeTango" apples. Of course you could only sell them if you pay the University of Minnesota a licensing fee, because they spent the money developing the fruit and have the patents protecting other people from copying it or growing it without a license. One of the reasons why the University of Minnesota's "Honeycrisp" apple is regarded as one of the best apple varieties today (and one of the top 25 innovations that changed the world) is because it too had patent protection.
