Steve Jobs' Last Big Project Was a Completely Redesigned 'iPhone 5'?

Steve Jobs' last big project was a completely redesigned 'iPhone 5', according to a CNET report.

Ashok Kumar, an analyst at Rodman & Renshaw, believes the unannounced and unreleased device will become a cult classic. Kumar says iPhone 5 "was the last project that Steve Jobs was intimately involved with from concept to final design. For that reason...this product will establish the high water mark for iPhone volumes."

CNET confirmed this with their own source who revealed that Jobs wasn't involved with the iPhone 4S but instead focused his energies on the iPhone 5.

Another source, who I spoke with this week and who claims to have knowledge of the redesign, said the iPhone 5 is a "complete redesign. This is a very large project that Steve dedicated all of his time to. He was not that involved in the 4S because his time was limited."

Kumar believes the iPhone 5 will debut around the time of Apple's Developer's Conference in the summer of 2012.

Won't the new iPhone be the iPhone 6, given that it is the 6th gen iPhone?

Not really, the 3 and 3G are same gen. And the 4 and 4s are same gen. Little upgrades are not being considered a new gen. The whole thing is kinda screwey. Correct me if I am wrong but wouldent the iPhone 5 actully be a 4th gen.

No. It will be whatever Apple decides to call it.

yeah but, there was no iPhone 3, it was the 3G, then the 3GS. So the way I see it: Original iPhone - 1st Gen iPhone 3G - 2nd Gen iPhone 3GS - 3rd Gen iPhone 4 - 4th Gen iPhone 4S - 5th Gen The 3G refers to the 3rd Generation network connectivity, not the generation of the iPhone.

Nah it will be iPhone 5. Apple dont name them on a yearly basis so it'll be iPhone 5 as it's after the iPhone 4/4S. So next iPhone will be iPhone 5, iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, iPhone 6S etc Apple dropped name after the connection eg 3GS. It's no more.

I think that's correct since iPhone 4S is actually counted as a fifth iPhone just like Apple counted 3GS as 3rd gen iPhone. (Remember iPhone 3G was iPhone 2 and iPhone 3GS was actually iPhone 3 and thus iPhone 4 is iPhone 4)
