Ballmer Says Microsoft Will Leave No 'Stone Unturned' in Battle Against Apple

Posted July 11, 2012 at 1:28am by iClarified
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer told CRN in a recent interview that he will leave no "stone unturned" in his battle against Apple.

---
"We are trying to make absolutely clear we are not going to leave any space uncovered to Apple," said an exuberant Ballmer in a 30-minute interview after addressing some 16,000 partners at the company's annual Worldwide Partner Conference in Toronto. "We are not. No space uncovered that is Apple's.

"We have our advantages in productivity," he said. "We have our advantages in terms of enterprise management, manageability. We have got our advantages in terms of when you plug into server infrastructure in the enterprise.

"But we are not going to let any piece of this [go uncontested to Apple]," shouted Ballmer. "Not the consumer cloud. Not hardware software innovation. We are not leaving any of that to Apple by itself. Not going to happen. Not on our watch.

"We do feel empowered to innovate everywhere and bring our partners with us," Ballmer said. "We are just not going to leave any -- what's the expression people like to use -- We're not going to leave any stone unturned, so to speak, as we pursue that."

I'm glad to see MS trying to innovate, but they've never had the slightest inclination or aptitude to cater to customer demand, and you can't just pick that up when it's never existed before. So while I'd like to see them offer some competition, and keep both Google and Apple competitive, I don't expect them to gain much success.

Ag, yeah. I'm thinking $1 billion from Microsoft to Nokia. Still waiting on that. Also waiting for Microsoft to make whole those who bought computers with the Vista OS.

save it Ballmer, we've heard it all before. Between Google & Apple, Microsoft are going to get hurt. Microsoft's best attribute is their ability to copy and replicate, and they've already lost that battle to Google. MS should stick to enterprise software and forget the consumers. Microsoft will deserve what they get.

Actually I just purchased a brand new macbook air, and many things that will be coming to mountain lion have already been in windows for at least 2 years. I don't really see them copying everything. Microsoft is getting what it deserves, billions of dollars every year.

What, "things," have been in Windows? Can you specify some examples?

I stand corrected, first commercial one was used by Xerox Parc. Neither ms or apple used it first on their systems. Although ms came up with the UI to be controlled by a mouse. Apple could not do anything but follow, as they went bankrupt in the 90's and Gates just had to invest in his competitor. Again just google it. And again I bought a mac for a reason I think is really fast and reliable, although I sometimes see the beach ball for even trying to explore y hard disk.
