Last month 54% of smartphone buyers chose Android, 36% chose an iPhone, reports Nielsen.

--
During Q2 2012 smartphone penetration continued to grow, with 54.9 percent of U.S. mobile subscribers owning smartphones as of June 2012. This growth is driven by increasing smartphone purchases: 2 out of 3 Americans who acquired a new mobile phone in the last three months chose a smartphone instead of a feature phone.

Android continues to lead the smartphone market in the U.S., with a majority of smartphone owners (51.8%) using an Android OS handset. Over a third (34.3%) of smartphone owners use an Apple iPhone, and Blackberry owners represented another 8.1 percent of the smartphone market.

Overall among smartphone owners, Apple had the highest manufacturer share of smartphone handsets. Among recent acquirers who obtained their smartphone during June 2012, 54 percent said they chose an Android handset and 36 percent bought an iPhone.

Not surprising, most people who buy Apple buy it as soon as it comes out. The rest get them for gifts later on. Very few buy month to month.

using the word "chose" too loosely. from what I've seen on TV most Android phones are sold at $0 or BOGO. for most people that's a very good offer compared to $199.

Of course android will dominate at this point. iOS 4. The majority of people wanting one has one. Just wait for the next model. Everyone will switch. Duh! How is apple to compete when you buy an android device you fucken get one free. That count as 2 sales for android. Can't even get a break on the iPhone. Yet one FREE

I know some people don't like the concept of iTunes because mostly they come from Windows camp. Once they get used to using it for their iDevices, it will become a convenience. We have stretched our manufacturing capability to the highest limit. The truth is we cannot supply the world and there will be room for other devices that mimic our enginuity. Of course our product s cost a premium, but we feel the consumers understand quality once they actually own our products. I also am aware that there are plenty of forums for Android users.
