Alright, I have a fourth gen Ipod and I understand what to do, but when I click on iPod4,1_6.1_10B144_Restore.ipsw
It wont download. I do have 6.1.0 software so I know I must download that one. Got any suggestions?

Try a different browser. I use chrome for some stuff and explorer for others. Some times certain files don't like certain browsers.

What's the error that's happening. And what program are you using. 6.1 is no longer being signed so if your using I tunes without blobs it ain't gonna work. U need 6.1.2 if you didn't save your shsh blobs for the iOS version your trying to install. If you did a OTA update and saved your shsh it won't work. You need a iTunes restore on what ever version you need blobs for what version your on. Again if you don't have the shsh blobs its to late to get from older iOS versions. They need saved when apple is stil signing that software or it will not work. You need to update to the most rescent version via iTunes restore not OTA update and go get tiny umbrella and save your shsh blobs while u stil can

I have a NON-jailbroken 4th Generation iPod Touch (32GB) running IOS 4.2.1. I've never upgraded IOS because I have some quirky apps (usually SIP apps) that initially broke under IOS 4.3.X.
I now want to upgrade IOS, but in "baby steps." iTunes only offers-up the most current version of IOS (6.X). Not interested in going there right now, at least unless I can revert back to where I am now.
Q1: How, using one of these "restore.ipsw" files, can I upgrade my iPod to, for example, 4.3.5>
Q2: How can I fully back-up my current set-up?
Q3: Assuming I can do the above full backup, how could I restore that backup so that I end up right where I am now if things should go tits-up with an upgrade?
Boy: would it be nice to be able to image and restore the iPod, just like I can do with any computer...

I usually back up to iCloud and when I restore it from the cloud it's usually identical to what I had saved before upgrading. Only stuff u may need to reapply would be your media like music or videos not sure if it does automatically its been a long time since I did a restore. Pretty sure what apps your backing up and everyone else's should go back to what you had saved. I
