Saturday, 20th June 2009, 07:06 am
*****
IMPORTANT: These instructions have been updated for the latest iPhone firmware. Please follow the up to date instructions here
*****

These are instructions on how to unlock and jailbreak your iPhone 2G on the 3.0.x iPhone firmware using RedSn0w for Windows. Before beginning make sure you have updated to iTunes 8.2.

You can find the Mac version of this tutorial here

** If you would like to jailbreak on the 3.0.1 firmware you can follow these exact instructions; however, in Step Two restore using this 3.0.1 iPhone firmware file instead of the 3.0 one. Continue with the instructions as indicated.**

Step One
Create a folder called Pwnage on your desktop.

Download the following files and place them in the Pwnage folder you just created:
- RedSn0w
- BL 3.9
- BL 4.6
- 3.0.0 (2G): iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw

Extract the RedSn0w zip file to the Pwnage folder.

Step Two
Connect your iPhone to the computer and launch iTunes.

Select your iPhone from the list of devices on the left. Now hold down shift and click the Restore button. Restore is preferred as it won't create any wasted space on your iPhone.

Navigate to the Pwnage folder on your desktop and select the firmware ipsw. Click the Open button to continue.

Step Three
Once iTunes has finished updating your iPhone to the desired firmware you may launch redsnw0w.exe from the Pwnage folder on your desktop.

Step Four
Once RedSn0w opens click the Browse button

Step Five
Select the firmware ipsw we placed in the Pwnage folder on our desktop then click Open

Step Six
Once the firmware has been verified click the Next button to continue.

Step Seven
Make sure Cydia and Unlock is selected and click the Next button.

Step Eight
We will know need to set the location of our bootloader files.

Click Browse and select the 3.9 bootloader file from the Pwnage folder on your desktop.

Click Browse and select the 4.6 bootloader file from the Pwnage folder on your desktop.

Click the Next button to continue.

Step Nine
Please plug your iPhone into the computer and make sure its OFF then click the Next button

Step Ten
RedSn0w will now guide you through the steps to get into DFU mode.

Hold down both the Home button and the Power button for 10 seconds.

Release the Power button and continue holding the Home button until RedSn0w detects the device.

Step Eleven
Your iPhone will now reboot

Step Twelve
RedSn0w will then begin uploading the new RAM Disk.

Step Thirteen
Once this is complete you will be notified that RedSn0w is done. Click the Finish button.
When your iPhone finishes reboot (5 minutes or so). It will run BootNeuter then be unlocked and jailbroken with Cydia on the SpringBoard.

It seems the link to download BL 3.9 no longer available. My question is, can I use any BL 3.9 that I previously saved for jailbroken firmware 2.0, 2.1 and 3.0 to work for 3.0.1? . or is BL 3.9 difference for each firmware version? Please advise. My iphone 2G is currently very slow respond when I press the home button and I want to restore to 3.0.1 (currently 3.0) to see if it is any better and will go for 3.1.2 later when jailbroken become available.

hi, I was using a 2G jail broken iPhone with 2.2 firmware. Last night I have updated my iPhone's firmware to 3.0.1 following the instruction. With the SHIFT+RESTORE my phone was restored to 3.0.1 (Although the instruction was for 3.0 but it says can be done for 3.0.1 too) After restoring when I am running redsn0w 0.8 ( In the instruction its 0.7 but the link downloads 0.8) and browse to the newly installed firmware it cant recognize the firmware. Is is because of using 3.0.1? Please advise.....am already half blind with out my phone..... By da way am using Windows Vista Ultimate edition with 32 bit

my wife hit the download and install but thinking she knew what she was doing. Now the phone is locked with the latest software available. We are on T-Mo and not ATT. The phone is asking me to connect to itunes and when I do it gives my the "Invalid SIM" message. Apparently I need to activate it but I cant. I tried to run redsnow as I have before using the bootladers and at the end of the process the phone is still not active. What should I di now?

Hello all, if you can not make or receive calls, you should do the UltraSn0w. http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=4253 /Arnauld
