PhotoLinker 2.2 on Mac OS X

Early Innovations has announced the release and immediate availability of PhotoLinker 2.2, a major update to their advanced photo linking application for Mac OS X. It enables complete photo annotation and supports over 100 metadata tags. Sophisticated geotagging capabilities permit both live, interactive geotagging as well as several different manual modes. PhotoLinker is compatible with all the most common GPS receivers and file types, and imported tracks may be viewed by selecting from an extensive array of integrated maps.

PhotoLinker writes directly to the photo (jpeg, raw, etc.) or its sidecar and was written, from the ground up, to follow the Metadata Working Group standards. MWG standards allow for future-proof tagging by providing guidelines for standard locations that allow backwards compatibility. Although Adobe, Apple, and Microsoft are a part of the standards group, Early Innovations' PhotoLinker is a leader in standards compliance.

PhotoLinker supports over 100 industry standard tags. Simple and easy to use, the metadata editor allows users to customize the fields they view and their order. Tool tips provide information about the tags and their use, and the powerful, open-source ExifTool Key Viewer allows users to monitor precisely which metadata fields will be modified.

New in Version 2.2:
* Integrates with iPhoto by reading and writing tags with the iPhoto database
* Synchronize metadata and iPhoto tags can be written back to the photo (and/or sidecar)
* High quality topographic maps for the US and Canada from MyTopo
* New support for PNGs
* Integrated spell checking
* Contextual menus on the photos
* Shareable metadata templates
* New version of GPSBabel

PhotoLinker's automatic geotagging mode is the simplest method for quickly geotagging hundreds of photos by utilizing the track log from a GPS receiver. To use Auto Mode the user can load their photos and track files by dragging them into PhotoLinker and dropping them onto the map or image browser. Using the application's manual geotagging mode, the user can geotag their photos without a GPS simply by entering the address or location corresponding to the photo. Additionally, manual mode allows the user to geotag photos to existing waypoints they may have created with their GPS. Single selection mode helps the user to quickly find the best track point with which to geotag their photos.

The GPS track log shows a complete history of any trip and enables the geotagging of photos. A typical GPS continuously records a series of track points (tracks) of the user's location, and the complete track log history is recorded and stored in a highly optimized database. Saved track files can be imported from the computer or downloaded directly from a GPS receiver. Tracks are automatically cataloged by date and displayed on an interactive map where the size and color can be adjusted. The track browser handles years of data and millions of track points.

"PhotoLinker has given me the opportunity to combine my background in math and physics with my love of the outdoors," commented CEO Jeffrey J. Early, Ph.D. "The application has slowly evolved into one of the best (and most inexpensive) multi-purpose, GPS photo linking, annotating, geotagging, track database and browser apps available."

Pricing and Availability:
PhotoLinker 2.2 is available now for direct download with a 30-day trial period. A software license may be purchased at the introductory price of $49.95 (USD).
