DFU means Device Firmware Update. If a restore using Recovery Mode doesn't work you will want to use DFU Mode as a last resort. When placing your iPhone into DFU Mode it does not load the OS before attempting the restore

To put the iPhone into DFU mode so you can do an iTunes firmware restore follow these steps:

Step One
Open iTunes and connect the iPhone to your Mac.

Step Two
Press and hold the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time.

Step Three
After exactly 10 seconds release the Sleep/Wake button. Continue holding the home button until you iTunes pops up a message telling you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.

The iPhone screen will remain black like this:

NOTE***: It may take a few attempts to get your iPhone into DFU mode. Generally, I hold down both buttons then release the Home button just before I think the Apple logo would appear. If you are still holding both buttons down and you see the Apple logo you are holding them down for too long!

Before you unlock your iPhone or enter in dfu mode you need to use an online iPhone IMEI Checker tool to determinate the iphone carrier and lock status only by imei code.

I can't see the purpouse of putting iOS 7 to DFU mode at the moment. However the instructions are following, try this: http://www.ipadconverter-mac.com/how-to-put-ipod-touch-into-dfu-mode/ 1) Power the device down 2) Start holding Power button for 3 seconds 3) Hold Home button but don't let go of the Power button, 10 seconds 4) Keep holding Home and let go of Power. About 15 seconds just to be sure That's it. You should now be in DFU mode.

Just to help others that may find themselves in my situation... I have solved my problem. I used the instructions on this site: http://www.video-converter-mac.org/put-iphone-ipad-into-dfu-mode/ My phone was displaying Recovery Mode and I was stuck in a Recovery Mode loop. Using these instructions I put it into DFU Mode, directly from Recovery Mode (while connected to my PC). As I did this, my computer installed a driver for my iPhone and said it was "Ready to Use" in a Windows pane. I then tried the "Restore iPhone" button in iTunes again and after it worked! It downloaded the update and restored the phone to factory settings. I had backed up my phone last night (I backup my data locally on my PC) so I got all of my data back. Follow the instructions on that site and you're golden. It took me a couple tries to get the timing of the holding of the buttons.

Do you know how to how to enter DFU mode on iPhone 4? http://www.leawo.org/tutorial/how-to-enter-dfu-mode-and-recover-deleted-files-from-iphone.html

This isn't DFU mode. You should either fix the tutorial or delete it. You're doing more harm than help.
