Apple's charitable matching program has raised more than $2.6 million dollars for nonprofit organizations since mid-September, reports AppleInsider.
The program was announced by CEO Tim Cook in an email to employees.
We are kicking off a matching gift program for charitable donations. We are all really inspired by the generosity of our co-workers who give back to the community and this program is going to help that individual giving go even farther.
Starting September 15, when you give money to a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, Apple will match your gift dollar-for-dollar, up to $10,000 annually. This program will be for full-time employees in the US at first, and we'll expand it to other parts of the world over time.
So far employees have raised $1.3 million and this number can only rise as time goes on and the program expands.
After reading the whole article at appleinsider.com, I noticed only the employee's $1.3m contributions will go to charities. Apple's "donations" will be spend on themselves.
"The $1.3 million matched so far is being used by Apple to internally promote the program and solicit more donations."
What a scam.
