Google has just announced pre-orders for the Google Glass Explorer Edition at price of $1,500, reports TechCrunch.

Google Glass is real and will soon be shipping. Sergey Brin just took the stage at Google I/O, won the Internet with an amazing skydiving demo of the device and then announced that Google Glass is available for pre-ordering. Named Glass Explorer Edition, it's available to those at Google I/O and costs a whopping $1500. Plus, the device will not ship until next year. But Google Glass is real. This is big.

Update:
Unfortunately, pre-orders are only open to U.S. I/O attendees for now. Hopefully, pre-orders will be opened up to more developers soon...

Don't get me wrong. The concept looks sweet and the other video on there website is great. This Vid is just retarded and useless. When these go in full production in Oakleys or something. I am totally getting a pair.

What's funny is you don't even know why you'd buy them. You just said yourself. Idiot

Your intelligence astounds me!

The point of the video is that it was recorded WITH the glasses, so it demonstrates how you can record whatever "JackAss" moments you want to record in your life. So I guess Google's business model is, "You may as well give us your money now, since you won't be around to spend it for much longer." 'D

Understanding that this is for Developer's only, it's still a stretch. With a projected (nondeveloper) cost of $1500, and no idea of what is offers, there's no way to guage who may be interesed in it, or how many they will sell. Google in clearly interested in developing a range of applications designed for it, but I doubt developers will dedicate resouces to it until they see if they will sell or not.

P.S. If you thought it was funny watching people walking into street signs with their idiotic smart phones before, just WAIT until they put these on! It'll finally make walking along the street a near death experience for both those with and without the glasses!
