Pod2g Says Jailbreak for Apple TV 3 is Not Being Worked On

Posted August 9, 2012 at 3:23pm by iClarified
Pod2g has tweeted a status update on the Apple TV 3 jailbreak noting that it is not currently being worked on.

ATV3 jailbreak: I have no news sadly, I'm not currently working on it nor anyone that I'm aware of. Sorry...

While this is bad news, the new Apple TV does offer support for High Profile 4.0 H.264 video which previous models did not. That means conversion may not be needed before adding your video to iTunes and playing back through the Apple TV. If you use MKV wrapped H.264 video you can find our tutorial on converting to MP4 without re-encoding here.

The high def is nice, but if I knew it wasn't jailbreakable, I would have bought the old Apple TV 1 on eBay since it has plenty of patches to watch alternate sourced materials. As it is, I mostly download movies via torrents and use "mirror to Apple TV".

Pod2G is wrong. Guys at Firecore are surely working on it since part of their business depends on Jailbreaks on APPLETVs if no JB is found for new ones their sales of ATV Flash will continue drop...

the guys over at firecore have always just taken existing jailbreaks and made them more user friendly for ATV users. dont expect anything from them. if the news that the latest 5.1.1 jailbreak didnt work on ATV3g wasnt the nail in the coffin to most (was definately for me) weeks ago, then this surely should be. move onto android for XBMC folks or keep your 2g.

Guess I'm stuck with a hockey puck in my closet. Sometimes being an early adaptor with the hopes for a JB for XBMC is not the right way to go. I hope the news around XBMC for android becomes fruitful enough to be a viable solution. Hope is there but things are at the infancy stage to really say "WOW"
