Amazon has announced a press event for September 6th, reports AllThingsD.

Amazon has sent invitations to the press for a Sept. 6 press conference in Santa Monica, Calif. The invitation offers absolutely zero hints. The full text states: "Please Join Us for an Amazon Press Conference."

The event will take place in mid-September at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. The venue appears to be a old airport hangar at the Santa Monica Airport, just outside of Los Angeles, where it commonly hosts private events and film shoots.

A recent report said the company was planning to introduce up to five or six tablet SKUs, at least one of which is a 10-inch model of its tablet.

September appears to be a huge month for product announcements with Microsoft and Nokia expected to unveil new Windows Phone 8 devices on September 5th and Apple expected to unveil at least the new iPhone on September 12th.

I don't know what Amazon see in making own tablets. The profit margin for them is dangerously thin.

It's just more ways for them to sell advertising and other products. That's where they make most of their money form.
