Bruce Willis, a well known Hollywood actor, is considering legal action against Apple over his desire to leave his iTunes music collection to his daughters, report The Daily.
Willis has discovered that, like anyone who has bought music online, he does not actually own the tracks but is instead 'borrowing' them under a licence.
Most purchasers do not bother to read the details of the terms and conditions they agree to when buying an album but the small print makes it clear that music bought through iTunes should not be passed on to others.
Willis has apparently spent thousands of dollars on purchasing music through iTunes and would like to leave it to his kids when he dies. One solution considered is to establish a family trust as the 'holders' of his music library. Another is to support ongoing legal action in five states that seeks to increase the rights given to downloaders.
Solicitor Chris Walton told The Daily, "Lots of people will be surprised on learning all those tracks and books they have bought over the years don't actually belong to them. It's only natural you would want to pass them on to a loved one. The law will catch up, but ideally Apple and the like will update their policies and work out the best solution for their customers."
Update: Bruce Willis' wife Emma Heming-Willis says this story is not true.

Actually a CD or Vinyl record purchaser does not own a song either. They own a piece of plastic that has a recording pressed into it and a licence to play that recording for their own personal and non-comercial enjoyment.

In case you didn't notice, the little note on the end says that THIS NEVER HAPPENED! There IS no lawsuit. Thus the policy will stand until someone DOES file a lawsuit, but I guess starting an invalid rumor is cheaper than hiring a lawyer!

You can plan for this with a digital asset trust. I got mine from the apple law firm in Jacksonville Fl .

Select Tracks you want > Show in Finder > Take those .m4a tracks convert them to .mp3 or desired format > voila all yours lol

agreed there ARE options to YOUR MUSIC and APPLE also allows you to SAVE on CD to restore your MUSIC too. APPLE has an EXTREMELY fair system for iTUNES... CDs are limited an PROTECTED by law also -- JUST not as well regulated as APPLEs
