Apple Launches iPhone 5 Battery Replacement Program

Apple Launches iPhone 5 Battery Replacement Program

Posted August 22, 2014 at 11:02pm by iClarified
Apple has found that some iPhone 5 devices may suffer from issues with their battery and has launched a 'iPhone 5 Battery Replacement Program' for affected devices.

Apple has determined that a very small percentage of iPhone 5 devices may suddenly experience shorter battery life or need to be charged more frequently. The affected iPhone 5 devices were sold between September 2012 and January 2013 and fall within a limited serial number range.

If your iPhone 5 is experiencing these symptoms, you should navigate here and input your serial number to see if the device is eligible for the program.

Replacement process
As of August 22, 2014, the replacement process will be available in the U.S. and China. In other countries, it will be available as of August 29, 2014.

Choose one of the service options below to have your battery replaced. Your iPhone will be examined prior to any service to verify that it is eligible for this program and in working order.

● Apple Authorized Service Provider - Find one here.
● Apple Retail Store - Make an appointment here.
● Apple Technical Support - Contact us.

Does this apply to iPod touch 5th generations as well? Because I'm experiencing similar problems with my iPod touch which I purchased January 2013.

What about iPod touch 5, currently when I have my iPod touch 5 charging all night as I sleep, when I start to use it in the morning it tells me that I have 60% left on my charge. After I have only used it for 10 minutes looking at new emails that have arrived. My device now only last 1 hour total after a full charge.....

Now Apple remembers after the iPhone 6 is coming out and we all have 5S's already? I wonder if they bought their batteries from Samsung the ones that explode!

My phone is eligible. I have had a few battery problems, but nothing major. Still, glad to get it fixed before it gets worse.

Just heard about the battery replacement program this afternoon. After dinner went to the Apple store and they replaced my battery in about 20 minutes. Couldn't have been easier.

Battery life is not a problem for Samsung devices. How could it be? The phones are utterly unusable, so there is no battery drain.

Maybe so but hear this, we have two original iPhones in daily use, bought in 2007. They still hold their charge easily for days. Never opened, wonder who made the batteries?

I own 3 Cell/Lab Shops and you can lie to yourself as much as you wish I replace Samsung batteries every day for customers and everybody knows that they don't hold for 2 days ( unless all you do is use it for phone calls and texts ) or you keep another 2 batteries in your pocket. even the specs makes you a lier.

My Note 3's battery easily lasts a full day and sometimes it lasts a day and a half. The Note 2 I had before that had a similar battery life. I didn't need to carry around a charger or a spare battery.

Eligible! However, the problem was so bad I replaced the battery on my own two months ago (thru iFixIt). Now Apple says "Too bad, not eligible for any kind of refund."
