Apple May Offer iPhone to T-Mobile Instead of Verizon

Analysts are now predicting that Apple will offer the iPhone to T-Mobile instead of Verizon.

According to TheStreet, AT&T will lose its exclusive agreement to sell the iPhone sometime next year and Verizon has been the favorite to get the device next, but Thomas Weisel analyst Doug Reid disputes that assumption.

Reid points to growing division between rivals which sees Google joining forces with Verizon to push the Droid.

Verizon has released several commercials directly attacking Apple, the iPhone, and its AT&T network. Apple and AT&T have since fired back with their own commercials.

"Apple wants to move away from exclusivity; T-Mobile would achieve this for Apple in the U.S.," Reid says. Notably, Apple already sells phones through Germany's T-Mobile unit.

The problem is that T-Mobile has half as many customers as Verizon's 71 million. Investors are likely to view a move to T-Mobile as far less lucrative.

SMART! Besides not needing to make a CDMA phone, has anyone checked out the prices for VERIZON Droid service? Almost twice as much as compared to AT&T or TMobile!

i hope it does come to tmobile because i'm tired of using edge and i want at least some sort of 3g action. not to mention all the caution about updating the firmwares. coverage wise i'm used to it so it ain't going to bother me. IF for some reason does goto verizon then i'm pretty screwed financially because i'll have to get the phone from out of country.

I realize people on TMobile love TMobile, usually for the low rates, but let's get this straight. Apple's feeling the "There's a map for that" blues with poor 3G coverage from AT&T vs Verizon, and their solution will be to go to TMobile, which has even worse coverage nationally than AT&T. This makes sense? Offering to TMobile, in addition to AT&T won't hurt, but it's hardly going to address the coverage issues that most have with AT&T. With newer chips that will work on all networks, we're much more likely to see a universal iPhone that goes on any network.

Its not a bad idea considering Apple wouldnt have to reengineer a CDMA iPhone. But the People are just not their TMobile would really have to kick it in the ass. I mean I've had TMobile for about 3 years now and its yet to fail me but other people just dont realize it.
