Every wedding includes a guestbook in which wedding guests can leave their name and a greeting for the new couple. It's a beloved wedding tradition and way to record well-wishes from friends and relatives. But, after the wedding, the guestbook is often left on the shelf while wedding film and photos are revisited again and again to reminisce about that special day.

Calgary start-up Burn37.com is updating this wedding mainstay with software that makes the guestbook concept a more enjoyable experience for guests and for the bride and groom. Instead of writing their well-wishes and greetings in a paper guestbook, guests use GuestReel to record video of their thoughts and best wishes for the couple. While a guestbook might end up on the shelf, GuestReel clips can be uploaded to the web, burned onto DVD, embedded into wedding day footage, and enjoyed repeatedly.

Andrew Hanna, Founder and President of Burn37.com Inc., talks about his inspiration for GuestReel: "With a guestbook, the bride and groom are forced to decipher what each guest wrote, if they wrote anything at all. And written words can only go so far to express the true feelings and wishes of guests. However, a short video of the guest offers a more personal and lasting connection and GuestReel delivers that message in a format that can be viewed and shared in many ways."

Using GuestReel is simple: First, the software is installed on a Mac and works with either the built-in camera or an external one. Next, the laptop is set up in a convenient location for guests, perhaps before the ceremony, after the ceremony, and during the reception. Then, guests use the simple-to-use interface to start and stop and redo their videos. Later, the bride and groom can review the videos and use them in a number of ways - uploading them to sites like YouTube and Facebook, sharing them through email, combining with wedding footage, or burning them onto DVDs to view or give away.

Hanna explains, "There are two things we've accomplished with GuestReel: It needed to be user-friendly so everyone feels comfortable with the experience, and, it needed to create usable video so the bride and groom can enjoy and share their wedding day." He adds, "GuestReel doesn't need special equipment or a licensed operator. Just install the software on a Mac and it's ready to go."

GuestReel is available for use by couples, by wedding planners, and by wedding photographers and videographers. Couples will enjoy the ease-of-use that GuestReel offers their guests and the lasting memories that GuestReel video provides. Wedding planners use GuestReel as a value-added service to expand their offering with little effort. Photographers and videographers can capture another aspect of the wedding and reception without staffing an additional camera.

"GuestReel transforms your wedding guests' greetings," Hanna tells brides and grooms, "and creates lasting wedding day memories that you WILL enjoy later. Guestbooks stay on the shelf but GuestReel videos will be treasured."
