China Unicom Sells 100,000 Apple iPhones Since Launch

China Unicom says it has sold more than 100,000 units of the iPhone since its official launch Oct. 30, according to the Dow Jones Newswire.

This figure, although much better than the 5,000 reported four days after the launch, is still well behind other big markets. In the U.S., Apple sold 270, 000 iPhones in the first 30 hours after it first went on sale in 2007.

"iPhone sales have been disappointing," said Paul Wuh, an analyst covering China Unicom for Samsung Securities. "For China Unicom, with 144 million subscribers, 100,000 iPhone users aren't going to do anything for their revenue."

China Unicom says it is still confident that sales will grow. This would be impressive considering the iPhone in China is more expensive then openly available grey market ones and it has WiFi disabled.
