Cartographica Mobile 1.0 | GIS for iPad & iPhone

ClueTrust has announced the release of Cartographica Mobile for the iPhone OS, the first mobile component of the Cartographica family of Geographical Information System products. The app enables mobile access to geospatial data, allows field personnel to view and edit data, maintains task lists, and supports the display of numerous layers of data. Fully integrated are the GPS and photo acquisition capabilities of the iPad 3G and the iPhone.

Carotographica Mobile enables mobile access to geospatial data provided by web map and feature servers, especially those that are compliant with OpenGeospatial Consortium's WMS and WFS specifications. The system is designed to work with the user's existing databases and data providers, so that adopters need make no changes to their existing GIS infrastructure. Field personnel can be granted access to view and edit data from corporate or institutional servers, alongside base maps from a variety of sources. User-level permissions are supported to ensure that only authorized personnel can see or change data.

Cartographica Mobile includes task list capabilities, which aid in the tracking of field assignments. Once task data is acquired from existing WFS services, the task list shows pending, in progress and completed tasks, allowing the user to view details, change the status, or edit the associated data, security permitting. The data on the server is updated immediately, and dispatch personnel can monitor all activities using GIS packages such as Cartographica for Mac OS X.

In addition to managing tasks, a wide variety of data from multiple sources can be displayed. If desired, all data can be editable, and photos can be acquired using the built-in camera. Taking a step beyond simple form handling, Cartographica Mobile can use a combination of street databases and GPS coordinates to simplify address input, making it less likely that addresses added by field personnel are inaccurate.
