Macsoftex Introduces American Poetry 1.0

Macsoftex has released American Poetry 1.0 for iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad. A fully searchable compendium of 5,000 poems by 50 of America's greatest poets, each poem is displayed in its entirety. American Poetry uses a parchment/sepia motif with a modest Victorian floral border to display poems in a black Times font, easily adjusted in size. A century of American poetry from Edgar Allan Poe and Edna St. Vincent Millay, to Sylvia Plath and William Carlos Williams is represented.

Following a stately splash screen, American Poetry displays a scrolling, alphabetical list of American poets, including the number of their poems to be found in the present anthology (Walt Whitman leads with 293, Arna Bontemps is last with 7). Permanently available at the top of the screen is a search field, so that entering any word, e.g. "today", brings up a list of 9 poems including the word in its title or first line of text. A left-facing arrow on the bottom left of the page brings up the preceding poem, and its mirror opposite the next.

The app includes a Send button which allows the reader to email the text of any poem, or add it to their Favorites list. The collection contains poems of Robert Frost, e.e. cummings, Langston Hughes, Emily Dickinson, Ezra Pound, T.S. Eliot, Stephen Crane, John Berryman, and many other famous poets.
