Chpwn is planning to release a tweak to Mail which will easily load new email when you pulldown the list of messages.
Preview of Mail Pulldown, available soon in Cydia... (Of course, Mail Pulldown will work on the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.)
We will let you know when it's available.
