Check out this video from Ruslan Tulupov that demonstrates it's possible to run six external displays off an M1 Mac mini or up to five displays (including the built-in display) off Apple Silicon MacBooks.

Officially, the new M1 Mac mini supports one display with up to 6K resolution at 60Hz connected via Thunderbolt and one display with up to 4K resolution at 60Hz connected via HDMI 2.0. For the M1 MacBooks, Apple says they support one external display with up to 6K resolution at 60Hz.

Tulupov discovered it was possible to power many more displays using DisplayLink adapters.

In the last video we covered a method of connecting more than two screens to your newest Apple Silicon M1 mac. In the last video we played around with one adapter for a total of three screens - in this part two we're taking this to the max and connecting up to six screens to our newest Macs.

You can purchase various DisplayLink adapters from here. A wizard to select the best adapter for your setup can be found here.

Apple's new M1 Macs can be ordered here:
13-inch MacBook Air with M1 Chip - $999
13-inch MacBook Pro with M1 Chip - $1249 ($50 off)
Mac mini with M1 Chip - $699
