How to Fix Issues With iPhone Installer v3.1

How to Fix Issues With iPhone Installer v3.1

Posted May 15, 2008 at 1:13pm by iClarified
These are instructions on how to fix Package download failed and permissions issues with Installer 3.1. This method was discovered by XianLi.

UPDATE****: This tutorial has proven ineffective due to some corrupt BSD installations. We are therefore recommending that you use the iLiberty+ payload that XianLi has created. Read this for more information.

This tutorial only fixes issues with the 3.1 Installer version. Before attempting this fix please ensure you have updated your community sources and you have enough free space on your iPhone root filesystem. Also, if your installer is working fine please do not install this.

Step One
If you haven't already added iClarified to your Installer Source then follow this tutorial.

i was worried i had to do a restore - quite alot of work involved - could i do a restore to 1.1.4 then use ziphone to jailbreak? do you think that would sort it.

My solution was a clean restore to 1.1.4 and using pwnage tool to jail break / unlock / activate and also install SSH & Installer. All in one go! The above solution sucks X(

I don't know how, but I woke up this morning, and all downloads started working properly. Last night I couldn't download anything, but today it's magically fixed.

For all of you guys, make sure you have BSD Subsystem properly installed as it is required to use the chmod and chown commands. Also if you have moved the Applications folder to /private/var/mobile you must move it to/private/var/root otherwise you'll still get permissions problems. Check the thread in Hackint0sh forum (link at the end of this article).

Can you verify that /Applications/Installer.app has the permissions root:admin 755. Also, /Applications/Installer.app/Installer should have permissions set to 6755.

So I just installed this, and now my installer won't download anything, just download errors, and I can't even uninstall the fix! Would this have anything to do with me moving applications with bosstools?
