this only give you jb that's all. so you need to update ur phone to 4.2.1 on ur own. via iTunes yes, all ur apps will be deleted. yes, after it you can restore your backup from iTunes. but might not be recommended. so here are a quick step by step. connecto to iTunes, do a full backup of your phone. then do a restore to 4.2.1. all your data will be deleted. after the restore completed, then you can full the greenpois0n. but remember, if you need unlock, there ultrasnow doesn't support the new firmware yet.

hope someone can help ..i have a iphone 4 latest firmware and previously jailbroken tethered with redsnow. done a restore so i could install fresh greenpoison, so i go through the press home ect stage and it says completed! but nothing!! the phone restarts itself the only thing the screen does is flash white for a second then goes onto my home menu with no loader and no jailbreak. i have none of the text that suposed to come up on the screen while it does its buisness! ive tried about 20 times now

My iPad goes through all the motions even as far as saying complete, but no text script scrolling, just a reboot. WTF. With soooo many different issues, why release this junk. Appreciate the efforts but just release it when it's fully tested with different variables and scenarios the end user might have. Waste of 3 hours.

GreenPoison worked for me on iPhone4 but after some 3 hrs of nightmare. If you manage to do a fresh restore on 4.2.1 (i bump into error 1013 restore to 4.2.1 earlier but managed to solved it after googling a solution) then you can get started. The 1st common problem is that after GreenPois0n is intiliazed it get stuck there (happen to me 10x or more). However, thanks to someone here who mentioned opening "console" as well on the Mac, it did run instead of stuck. So the trick it that you need to open up "console", from spotlight (far upright), search for console and then start it before or during running of GreenPois0n. After u get the phone to reboot with the greenpoison icon, the jb should be completed and you will see a "loader" icon on yr phone. The loader icon supposed to install Cydia somehow doesn't work at all (presumably the server is busy or down). You can try though. This is the 2nd common problem. To solve this (thanks to another person here), run redsnow 0.9.7b, select only install Cydia, that should solve the Cydia problem and you are done!

Running "console" really works on me

SUCCESS!! JAILBREAK AND UNLOCK OF 3GS !! I will be damned, I made it work. So here is what you will have to do to jailbreak and unlock your iPhone 3GS, no matter what bootrom. Don't blame me if something goes wrong, it worked for me ;) Connect your 3GS and let iTunes do its job by updating the Phone to 4.2.1 When done, you will need to jailbreak it. Therefore take the iPhone into DFU-Mode (remember, this works only with iPhone connected and running iTunes). iTunes should report it has recognised an iPhone in restore mode. (If done correctly, you should not see anything on the iPhone's screen. If you see "Connect with iTunes", you did something wrong. Start again) Now you are ready to jailbreak with the just released Greenpoison - tool. BEFORE you hit the Jailbreak button, turn of iTunes! Now Greenpoison is doing its job. (thank you cronic-dev team) After jailbreaking, you should see the animated skull while the phone boots. If everything worked as on mine iPhone, you should now see the activation screen. Here is, where I got stuck, since I don't have the original SIM to activate. But as it turns out, we don't need it :) Now we need Redsn0w. I used 0.9.6rc8 Redsnow needs the original IPSW (iPhone firmware) to start working. You can find download links also here at iClarified. Next Redsnow asks if you have a newer (BB) model of the iPhone. I chose yes, since I updatet it via iTunes, so the BB got updated anyhow. The next screen is important. Here you mark: Install Cydia AND Install iPad baseband. And hit next. Now let Redsnow do its magic... After reboot you should come past the activation screen and have cydia already installed. Connect your iPhone to your WLAN and update Cydia. After Cydia reboots your iPhone you will notice that the jailbreak(s) you performed are untethered, which means the iPhone can boot up without connecting to the Mac :D Now enter Cydia again and install the Unlock - Ultrasnow! Oh my oh my - after rebooting put in the SIM of your choise and... YEAH From what I understand, this is somehow a combination of the jailbreak tools for one redsnow to downgrade the baseband and greenpoison to make it untethered. It doesnt work for me :(, did everything restore, DFU mode and sometimes it workds sometimes it doesnt, but when it does that you get to see the coding as soon as it boots up its still on the the itunes, conect, emergency thing, screen is not jailbroken.. anyone ? ? ?

I am just curious, I've never been succesful, but is there any way to keep saved game data on my phone. Since jailbreaking, you should always set the phone up as a "new phone" instead of a back up, I lose my game data whenever I restore and jailbreak again. Are there any apps out there to assist in saving said game data once I restore to 4.2.1?

No, you do not need to set it up as a new device. You should do a full restore to the version of iOS you are jailbreaking though. After that you can jailbreak the device and and restore your backup. If however you used any tweaks to springboard like folderenhancer or had hid some icons or such you should install the correct packages from cydia before restoring the backup though.

For all who are having problems with some failiure masseges at the beginnig of jb: "Cant find xxx", try turning off iTunes after getting into dfu mode. That worked for me. However now I'm stuck at the activation screen and I don't have the original SIM. Anywone who knows a workaround? 3GS with (probably) new bootrom @ 4.2.1

Guys, Mine is working. Here is what I did. I did a clean restore of 4.2.1. Then, I jailbroke using greenpois0n. Once your jailbroke successfully you will see that loader app. Disregard that because I tried to download cydia through there several times getting up to 95% and then it would just crash or say success even though it didn't finish. The way to get around that is using redsnow to just install cydia. Download redsnow, plug phone into computer turn off. Run redsnow and select the tab that says install cyda (this is the only tab you will check) press next and get ready to place phone into DFU mode (It will prompt you through the steps). It will install cydia and voila problem solved. Redsnow does have an untethered. If you're currently tethered just click untether jailbreak Monte and you should be good on 0.9.6b6. Never worked for me though so I just went ahead and did it with greenpois0n.

I had the tethered jailbreak, I run the greenpois0n jailbreak had 0 problems, now i have untethered jailbreak with all my cydia apps music videos settings... iphone 4 16gb

Congrats! Got lucky, some people really messed up their devices by not doing it off a fresh restore. All kinds of errors. That's why I don't recommend it.

Same issue. Doesn't work on my iPad but it works on my iPhone 4. Maybe its not eligible for all idevices yet as promised, thats why the title says only iphone 3gs and 4.

You need to keep holding the home button in the last step, throughout the error messages. After a couple of seconds, the device will start scrolling text for about 2 - 3 minutes, then restart automaticaly and voila, jailbroken.

Workaround for this: you need to go in console to greenpois0n.app folder and run the binary file manually inside the console... for example: $ cd /greenpois0n.app/Contents/MacOS/ $ ./greenpois0n the gp window will open, use it normally and it will work... you have to go inside the folder, if you run it from another folder in the console it won't work.

I thought this jailbreak was for all idevices? the titles says iphone 3gs and 4 only? i got it to work on my iphone 4 but not on my ipad. so maybe it isn't for all idevices.

Long story short, I restored to 4.2.1 BB 3.10.1 and it’s been sitting on my desk for a couple of months – now that there is greenpois0n rc5 – will I be able to jb then unlock with a legitimate sim? or do i need to use an at&t sim to even see my springboard? thanks so much for any information you give me :P

VERIFIED CYDIA FIX: Download and Install GP; then run Redsn0w 0.9.7b6, select the 4.2.1 IPSW, then just tell it to install Cydia (no Monte), and follow through. Greenpois0n will remain, but it will correctly install Cydia without having to use worthless Loader app.

I have an iPhone 3gs on OS 3.1.2. I ma trying to upgrade to OS 4.0.1 but apple wont let me, I can't get past the "verifying will apple" past. It says i am not eligible for restore. Guys, Just to let you know, My Iphone 4 32g on the 4.0.1 firmaware jb and unlocked crashed and entered on the boot loop mode. I got on DFU mode, and it was impossible to restore to 4.0.1, so I used the pwnage 4.1.4 and did a restore without uploading de baseband to the 4.1 firmware. After that It didn't work to do phone calls cause it's locked, even with the ultrasn0w installed, it didn't got carrier signal, but Id did another jailbreak with greenpoison and reinstall the ultrasn0w, and now, it's perfectly working! So if you are having trouble, use pwnage 4.1.2 to restore to the firmware 4.1 it will not upgrade the baseband, keep it on the 1.59.00, than do again the Jailbreak with greenpoison and install ultrasn0w via cydia! tks regards!

If your phone is not SIM LOCK free you can not do anything until the last release .

The tutorial said use Limera1n to unlock 4.1 and jailbreak for 3GS. That is wrong. Limera1n does not preserve baseband!

if you haven't already, try rebooting the phone and try installing cydia again. if it doesn't work: rejailbreak your phone and try installing cydia again. hope this helps.
