Apple Threatened With Closure of its Operations in Italy

Apple has been threatened with the temporary closure of its operations in Italy and fines of up to 300,000 euros if doesn't comply with Italian law and offer a free two-year warranty on its products, reports Reuters.

Italy's AGCM competition and market authority has already imposed fines of 900,000 euros on divisions of Apple, which offers a paid technical support service, for failing to tell customers about their rights to free assistance.

But months after the previous fine, Apple has failed to comply with the antitrust request, the watchdog said. The company offers a free one-year guarantee scheme, which can be extended to two years on payment of a fee.

Apple has been given 30 days to respond to these allegations.

Two year warranties in Italy? How the hell does Fiat survive? All this will mean is that Apple products will be more expensive there and anywhere in the EU that has 2 year standard warranties. You wanted it, you'll end up paying for it!

Apple's trying to impose it's "standard contract" on every country it sells it's product in, while Europe, as a whole, has established rules governing the length of support contracts. There's no question that Apple will have to comply with the existing law. The fact they'd resist isn't going to improve their image, just when they were looking so good as a corporate citizen when compared to Google's 'stealing innocent people's personal computer data' in it's Streets' View project.

Well different countrys different law in Canada when you buy a apple product you automatically have a year warranty.. Before your warranty runs out you have to buy an apple care just to extend your warranty in 2 years.. Damn..
