Fitbit Announces Availability of Charge HR and Surge Fitness Bands

Posted January 6, 2015 at 4:12pm by iClarified
Fitbit today announced the global availability of both the Charge HR and the Surge fitness bands. Fitbit first revealed the fitness bands back in October with an 'early 2015' ship date.

The Fitbit Charge HR features continuous wrist-based heart rate tracking, a bright OLED screen, an exercise mode, Caller ID, automatic sleep detection, a water resistant design with 5 days of battery life, and much more. The Charge HR is available black, plum, blue, and tangerine

On the other hand, the Surge includes many of the same features as the Charge HR, but also features a built-in GPS to monitor running, customizable watch faces, and battery life up to 7 days. The Surge is available in black, blue, and tangerine.

“Focused on our mission to empower and inspire people to lead healthier, more active lives, we have always understood that activity tracking is only part of the journey to attaining better health. It is critical that the information users get from tracking is easy to understand and useful, and the experience is fun and engaging – so they stay motivated,” said James Park, CEO and Co-Founder of Fitbit. “With Fitbit Charge HR and Fitbit Surge, features like heart rate tracking are made simpler by being continuous and automatic so the technology works no matter what you’re doing and the experience is seamless yet powerful, giving users valuable all day health insights.”

Fitbit also announced two new features coming soon to all Fitbit users:

● Multi-device support: enables up to 5 Fitbit devices to sync to one account, giving you all your stats at any time, no matter which tracker you’re wearing

● Exercise summaries on display: shows all your exercise stats directly on the Charge HR display, so you can see how well you performed during and after your workout, providing quick access to stats

You can purchase both the Charge HR and the Surge from Fitbit starting today for $149 and $249 respectively. Major retailers including Best Buy, Brookstone, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Kohl’s, REI, The Sports Authority and Target will sell the devices by the end of January.

They're on Back order for 6-8 weeks right now. You can "buy" one but, you still can't actually get one for another 2 months.

I ordered a Charge HR Plum from fitbit.com on Jan 11th and received confirmation saying it would ship in 6-8 weeks. I received another email from fitbit a week ago saying now it will be the end of March. WTH? Only thing they offer as apology is free expedited shipping which I already wanted. I had to call to get the 10 bucks removed from my order. They won't charge my debit card till it ships, so one more thing to remember. Also, So much for using the device to help start my New Year fitness plan when 1/4 of the year will be over! :-/

I just called TODAY to get an update of when they were going to charge my card, I think that it is pretty irresponsible for a company to not at least give me a heads up of what day they're running my card for this money, and NOW THEY SAID MID APRIL!!!!!!!! I ordered my Plum Charge HR on January 6th. This is getting ridiculous..... They couldn't even give me a date in April... So it went from beginning of March, to end of March, to MID APRIL now!! AND they cannot tell me when they are going to charge my card. Fitbit you have REALLY dropped the ball here....
