Apple Joins NFC Forum as Sponsor Member With Seat on Board of Directors

The NFC Forum has announced that Apple is a sponsor member as of yesterday, gaining a seat on their board of directors.

Apple has joined the NFC Forum as a sponsor member as of August 11. “The top tier of NFC Forum membership, sponsor membership, entitles an organisation to a seat on the NFC Forum board of directors, the association’s governing body,” NFC Forum director Paula Hunter says. “We are delighted to welcome Apple to our board of directors as an NFC Forum sponsor member.”

The Apple iPhone 6 uses NFC (Near Field Communication) to help facilitate Apple Pay mobile payments. Apple will likely use its seat on the NFC Forum to influence the technology and support its push into wireless payments.
