If you are on a new or old 3GS US AT&T 3.1.2 iPhone (like me) stay for gods sake from this (BlackSn0w) , it has been a disaster, This is what I know after a lot of waste of time and again only applicable to AT&T since that is what I have: Problem #1-WiF not working-Solution-Reset Network Settings Problem #2-Phone dropps reception and eventually gets to the point that it restarts and gets stuck with the Apple Boot Up Logo-Solution: Avoid Blacksn0w while having an AT&T sim in it - supposedly it works fine in Europe to put in a diff sim, iPhone doesnt have this problem... Problem #3-Wanna be able to tether in the US without using BlackSn0w since Blacksn0w on AT&T crashes the iPhone about once every three days- Soultion: Instead of unlocking the phone in the US, unlockit before you go out of the country using BlackSn0w, then restore when back in the US, while in the us to enable tethering use the so called CommCenter Patch...it may seem complicated to some but, trust me, If I can do you can do it. Hey man. Wondering if you can help me. I'm living in the Middle East but bought the 3GS Iphone in California before I left. It's week 38, so I've never needed to tether break it. Also, I used GeoHot's Blackra1n and blacksn0w to jailbreak and unlock it. But everyweek, the IPHONE crashes. What happens, is I get a "no service", then if I turn it off or try to reset something, the phone crashes, and I can't get it past the apple logo loading screen. Then I have to retore it, and start this same bullshit process all over again, every week. Any ideas or help? Thanks man.

Hi! Can I download the fireware from iTunes, using my friends phone (with a diffrent service provider) To reinsatall the firmware and activiate my phone with he´s phone? Or is it the phone lock more embedded then that?

My iPhone is a 3G (Optimus [Official Portuguese Iphone operator] of origin) and I had already completely JB. and unlocked since version 2.2 , ..., 3.0 of the fw, for TMN (not allowed operator for Iphone, in Portugal [like T-Mobile, I think]) . But now with the blacksn0w, everything runs like a dream for 3.1.2 fw., but when it comes time to unlock the operator (TMN), it runs the sn0w (from the blacksnow app), start to search for TMN network, but nothing. I tried several times and nothing. The fw is 3.1.2 restore (not updated by Itunes). The only thing I'm not even achieve is to have network when I insert the SIM from TMN. JB is OK. Your Sim Card may not be registering properly with the cell network. Put the Sim in a Legal phone wait till its up and working make a phone call. then put sim back in i phone. I have seen issue with sim not registering properly unless it was in phone it was meant to be in.

this iphone business has just been a long list of problems. does anyone have any guesses as to what else i can try? i have 3g, and have somehow ended up on 3.0 on 05.11.07. i cannot downgrade using fuzzyband as it tells me i have bootloader version 05.09. i cannot update/restore to 3.1 as i keep getting 1601, 13, 14, etc errors in itunes (many computers, many cables, different usb ports tried - nada). i have ultrasn0w, but of course it didnt unlock it properly, and i have no service. ah, complicated. any ideas? thanks guys :)

Download iTunes 9.0.2 first and update your iPhone with new FW 3.1.2 from iTunes then go ahead and use blackra and I believe you will be OK.

Those who have 3.0 and tried to update I had the exact same problem. No matter what restore file I used i got those generic Errors and the phone remained in DFU or REcovery mode with the itunes cable icon on screen. Same procedure with with my other iphone but the new one refused. The failure occurs when itunes does it check with the apple store then Apple says "NOT" The only possible way i found to bring phone back to life is just to the the restore right from itunes and let it restore you phone to factory with latest software. this will update your modem firmware which is most of what I wanted to avoid. Well once its all done and the phone is back to life use the black rain jail break and unlock tutorial and you will be back in business with unlocked phone. Just depending on your boot rom dont let the battery die.

If you did all steps like you said you should be good but you said that you cant unlock check your iPhone with differnt sim card thats just one more way to try.I done the same procedures and my iPhone is working good so thats all I have to say my friend.

i having problem my i phone,it was 2.2.1.but somebody installed inside turbo sim,i removed that turbo sim and unlocked perfectly,but the problem is i can get signal from some providers only,the others alwys no service...please anybody help me out to solve this problem

same thing happened to me. This is what u have to check. 1. go to settings/General/Network/Cellular Data Network in the APN box u should have a url that is been provided by your provider. I guess when u Jailbreak and unlock it wipes it out

Good evening, in on a iphone 3gs 3.1.2 , firm ware 05.11.07. followed tutorial to the letter and got Snow off blackrain with cydia. however when i put in my English orange sim it just comes up with "different sim detected please connect to itunes" however i have signal "i recived a text at this point" . but i cant use anything on the phone unless i put in my rodger sim again. anyone got any ideas. thanks for your time.

Did you successfully jailbreak your iphone? After the jailbreak, did you install the blacksn0w in Cydia?

yep, Downloaded Cydia, then downloaded Blacksn0w, said it was done! so stuck in my other sim, no joy! downloaded sn0w agian and rebooted phone and still no joy:-(

For me too I got "different sim detected" error. Tried the jb and unlock process for 10-15 times . Finally used the process described in http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=855622 and it works.

Does a way of unlocking the 3g without an AT&T sim card? i have moved country and can't get hold of one easily. thank you

i think the blacksnow will work with or without sim card. Did you try running the jailbreak and unlocking without sim?

Hi yes it will work without the sim, but never click the check online for the courier in itunes as it will block it and then you'll need the AT&T. hope this helped.

I did not upgrade to 3.1.2 because I am afraid of it becoming locked, or bricked. I try to install blackra1n through cydia, but after I click "install", I get this message: "Note: the requested modifications cannot be applied due to required dependencies or conflicts that cannot be automatically found or fixed"... and then it dos not let me install... I believe I need to upgrade to 3.1, but I'm afraid that if I do that, I will have to reinstall Cydia or not be able to unlock it again....has this happened to anyone or does anybody know what I should do? I don't really get the certain answer. How do I upgrade to 3.1 before I use blackra1n tool to upgrade to 3.1.2. Because I'm already jailbroken and unlocked with 3.0.1 version, should I use any tool to upgrade to 3.1 or just upgrade officially from itune?? Please HELP ME!! Much appreciate!!

i accidentally update my iPhone 3G to 3.1 or 3.1.2 through iTunes updates months ago (it was 2.4 before) and i just did those, but im stuck at reboot :( my iPhone keep reboot and rebooting all over again, i already tried press reset+home for 10sec but it just turn off the iphone and when i turn it on, still rebooting X( what should i do now ?

Hi Justin, Re update your phone again, it should work with no problem, re do all the steps again, it seems there is something causing this reboot which will hopefully be solved after you reupdate it.

Hi, it worked great for me on the 3G i've manged to update it successful to the 3.1.2 and unolock it as well, there was a problem with itune that when i sync old apps they will open and close on the iphone, so i have to download them again from itune to work on the iphone. now and after many successful itune syncs, today i got a message that my sim is not recognized and i cannot access the iphone on ituenes any help on how to fix that rather than re installing the 3.1.2 as i have fixed it and installed everything again i don't want to pass through this another time. Hi, I have solved this problem by switching my sim with the AT&T sim card, and opened itunes, it asked me if i want to update the sim info i choose no, then i disconnect it installed my sim and connect again to itune, it asked me if i want to check online for the Currier i choose No and it is working again. thanks.

have 3GS (32GB) that came with v3.1.2 (05.11.07) and carrier-locked. Used blackra1n/blacksn0w flawlessly however when I insert preferred carrier SIM, the phone recognises network/carrier but no signal. When attempting to call that number, I get a std message saying ‘the number you are calling is currently not available….’ hence cannot call/SMS nor receive calls/SMS. I’ve tried doing ‘full network reset’; ran blacksn0w again; completely wiped and performed factory restore….no errors…but the same problem exists… Anything I'm doing wrong??? any suggestions would be much appreciated.

My friend I think this has nothing to do with blackra1n, can you try any other sim card and see, if the problem still there I think you must have your iPhone checked and serviced.

I'm experiencing the same problem on a 2G iPhone after installing blackra1n and blacksnow. i now effectively have an iTouch, instead of an iPhone. the SIM definitely works, since i've tried it in another iPhone (unlocked 3G). "Cellular Data Network" doesn't even show up in Settings/General/Network. Signal bars show zero reception, and eventially 'No Signal' replaces it. however, the iphone next to it has full reception. i don't know if carrier or location is involved in this, but I'm in South Africa using Vodacom.

Ashraf...yup...did try UL/JB using 2 different carriers SIM...same story :( I've no doubt on blackra1n/blacksn0w effectiveness. I think my 'brick' is most probably IMEI locked. May work if I tried with overseas carrier SIM. Will update if it works that way. Yudha...are u using Indo SIM on Aussie handset? because in past I've used Dev-team JB/UL solution on 3G (on 04.xx BB) and it has worked w/out any hitches whilst using various SIM in Oz. If your BB has been upgraded, just d/grade it and try. Callan....mate..although I also use 2G but haven't tried Geohot's release on it. Quite happy with v3.0 on BB 04.05.xx. I think you should perform factory restore; check BL and take it back to pre-upgrade state, try removing/inserting SIM; switch airplane mode on, wait 30 secs, turn off and see how it goes. I think 2G JB/UL can be quite comfortably manipulated

My friend I think what ever you do will not harm your iPhone, I myself spent 1 week doing upgrades and downgrades using many utilities, the good thing is that you can always do a restore using iTunes, do'nt be afraid of trying. At the end the best and the fastest way of having your piece Jailbraked and Unlocked is using blackra1n, just follow the steps which are available here at iclarified.

Possible solution to GPS, WiFi, Youtube problems. What I did is, I put my original O2 SIM card and restored my iPhone 3GS with iTunes to factory settings. Then I jailbreaked wih BlackRa1n (still with O2 SIM) and unlocked with BlackSn0w. i checked to see if all is working - YES. After that i just replaced the SIM with "unsupported" SIM that I use. All is working: WiFi, GPS and Youtube without any problem. Hope this helps.

Successfully unlocked mine bb 5.11.07 bl 6.02. however i am experiencing random blackout on my screen. Sometimes when placing a call, my screens turns off while call is in progress. Pressing the home button won't restore my display (but the call is still active). Pressing sleep/wakeup button creates a sound like a flashing camera, then pressing it again will restore my display. There are times also that when creating an sms message, the same scenario also happens. I have only encountered this after the unlocked process. 3.1.2 also is a little slow. Which is the best firmware you can recommend. Thanks.

Yeah, just Go to: Cydia > Manage > Sources > Edit > Add sinfuliphonerepo.com and download the MMS & Tethering Settings. Follow the instruction givin =) hope that works for you. It worked for me. iPhone 3G 3.1.2

How will you accidentally update? Their like couple of buttons you need to press before it actually starts to update??? And yeah you will, if you lose the jailbreak you will lose your unlock. As you can access the phone without being jailbroken. I understand you can put a att sim card to activiate the phone, once you switch it to a tmobile it will lock :)

Hi, thanks to Geohot my iphone 3g is updated. I had no problems jailbreaking it or unlocking it. I am from canada and using a rogers sim card. The only problem i have right now is i cannot connect to my carrier. i have turned off the 3G and toggled the airplane mode button but all it does is keep searching untill it says no service. All my apps work fine though, i need help please i can't make calls or send text msgs....that really defeats the purpose of having a phone:( Please HELP!!! thanks

hi people for all those who tried to to jail break und unlock with blackra1n and stuck with "emirgency call only" i find a way to pass that... its that smart but stil its work for me press the home button and start itunes.. in recovery mode... do restore...then update... close itunes, load the blackra1n rc3 to the desktop conect the iphone with usb... then press make it ra1n with out presing any button on the iphone... after few seconds u will see geohot and pop up on your desktop.. dont tuch anything... after a few more seconds it will reboot it self... now its jailbroken... enter blackra1n icon and install sn0w its work for me after one atempt hope its work for u... geohot i salut you

I have an iPhone 3G and I'm trying to use T-Mobile. As of right now, it says "Please Insert Valid Sim" and the phone remains locked/emergency use only. I have tried to jailbreak/hack without the sim in. This has not gotten me anywhere. I have then put in my T-Mobile sim which gets rid of the "Please Insert Valid Sim" message but my phone is only available for emergency calls. With the sim in I have tried to jailbreak/hack it and it refuses to unlock. Anyway around this?

hello, just wanted to double check with you if you are having sync issues with itunes. Are you able to sync evertything else other than music??? please let me know. Or you can uninstall itunes completely and everything related to itunes and then reboot reinstall itunes and then try to sync. let me know if it works.

Restart the network setting. Configuration->General->Reset->Networks setting. That work for me
