TSMC Considers Building Manufacturing Plant in the U.S.

TSMC says it will make a decision on building a U.S. manufacturing plant next year, according to Reuters.
In January, Chairman Morris Chang revealed he was considering a U.S. foundry following President Trump's push to bring manufacturing jobs back to the United States.
TSMC spokesperson Michael Kramer now says that "We won't make a decision until next year".
"We would sacrifice some benefits if we move to the States. But we have flexibility in Taiwan. If an earthquake happened for instance (in Taiwan), we could send thousands of people here as support, whereas it's harder in the States," he told Reuters.
TSMC is said to be considering a T$500 billion ($16.41 billion) investment for the plant. It's also reportedly partnering with Foxconn on a bid for Toshiba's memory business.
