Ikea plans to launch its FYRTUR smart blinds with Apple HomeKit support in the U.S. on April 1st. The company spokesperson confirmed the date in an email to Fast Company.

US stores will carry the FYRTUR model, a set of wireless, battery-operated blackout blinds that will work with Alexa, HomeKit and Google Assistant. The blinds' battery is rechargeable and both a charger and a remote control are included with the product. A second, non-blackout version, KADRILJ, won't be available in the US.

Features:
● The blinds can be controlled wirelessly to filter incoming light or prevent outside glare - depending on the activity in the room.
● With the help of the TRÅDFRI Gateway and App, blinds can be raised or lowered by the timer at the desired time.
● Blackout blinds prevent the ingress of light and provide complete darkness in the room.
● The roller blind is cordless for increased child safety.

The blinds are already available in Germany with FYRTUR prices starting at €119.

I’ve had smart blinds for about a year and a half. 1 charge does about 6 months. If I was ever building a house I’d make sure I had hidden power next to each window.

Maybe in the future they could be solar fueled blinds or powered by solar panels from a home...
