Apple Drops $99 Fee to Migrate Your Data to a New Mac

Apple has dropped the $99 fee it previously charged to migrate your data when purchasing a new Mac, reports Tidbits.

After being tipped off by a reader, the site contacted an Apple Store Operations Specialist who confirmed the policy change.

Beginning April 2, there will be no cost for Data Migrations with the purchase of a new Mac or Data Transfers with a repair.


If you still prefer to move your content over yourself, Apple makes it quite easy with its Migration Assistant utility.

Try and go to Microsoft and ask them to migrate your data for you and see if they’ll do it for free.

I think that was the point. You could do it for free. It’s easy. If you wanted them to take up their time and do it for you, they charged you. Just like any service provider.
