Apple has published a support document detailing how iTunes functionality will be reallocated in macOS Catalina.

All of your favorite iTunes features, including the iTunes Store, will soon be available in three new and more focused apps designed for macOS Catalina.

Here's What to Expect:
● Music that you’ve imported or purchased will be in the new Apple Music app.
● Music playlists and smart playlists that you've created in iTunes will be in the new Apple Music app.
● The iTunes Store will still be available to buy music on Mac, iOS, PC, and Apple TV.
● iTunes Gift Cards and iTunes credits will be maintained and can be used with the new apps and the App Store.
● iPhone, iPad, and iPod backup, restore, and syncing will move to Finder.
● Movies and TV shows that you purchased or rented from iTunes will be in the new Apple TV app.
● Use the Apple TV app for Mac for future movie and TV purchases or rentals.
● Podcasts that you subscribed to or added to iTunes will now be in the new Apple Podcasts app.
● Audiobooks that you purchased from iTunes will now be in the updated Apple Books app.
● Use the Apple Books app for Mac for future audiobook purchases.

Music and media you've 'ripped' will automatically transition to the new the new apps. In addition, your previous iTunes Store purchases and synced libraries will not change on any of your devices.

Personally, most of Catalina appears centered around removing the many features users know and use frequently. Since there a few actual new features, aside from sidecar, which apparently only works for certain users, I now have even LESS reasons to upgrade than ever. Please Apple, as you continue jacking your prices up into the stratosphere, give us something to renew our faith in Apple. Bad imitations of Amazon, Google and Facebook won't corner any markets, and will only cannibalize your existing fans, as fewer of us will bother upgrading anymore. You can only sell uber-expensive toys to the super-rich for so long before you're left with NO market at all. It's fine having both a high end and an Uber class, but at least give the rest of us a reason NOT to jump ship and denounce Apple for the greedy F*cks Ive is painting them as. I LOVE Apple products, but as you release more and more 'never affordable' products, I'm going longer and longer between ANY upgrades at all. Without a device to support, what use are 'services'?

I love the line about ‘any music/books you’ve uploaded will be saved.’ I’m an author, and like proofing and having access to my own books, yet Apple insists on deleting them all anytime I upgrade because I don’t ‘purchase’ my own books from Apple. Expect the same with ANYTHING stored on Apple devices. If Apple doesn’t own it, they won’t give a shit! That’s why I keep everything backed up, ‘cause Apple loves deleting stuff you own for no apparent reason.
