Apple sold 494,000 iPhones in China last month, down from 1.27 million a year ago, reports Reuters.

The drop is due to coronavirus outbreak in the country which saw restrictions on travel and the closure of numerous stores and a factories.

According to the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), mobile phone shipments were down 54.7% from 14 million in February 2019 to just 6.34 million in February 2020. It was lowest level for February since at least 2020, when CAICT started publishing data.

Huawei and Xiaomi saw their collective shipments drop from 12.72 million units to 5.85 million units.

Apple managed to ship just over 2 million units in January; however, in mid-February the company warned investors that it will likely miss guidance for the March quarter.
