AirPods Studio to Feature Neck Detection, Custom Equalizer Settings, More [Report]

New details about Apple's upcoming over-ear headphones, purportedly called 'AirPods Studio', have been shared by 9to5Mac.

The high-end noise cancelling headphones will purportedly be able to detect if you are wearing them around your neck.

Instead of ear detection, Apple is working to include sensors that can detect whether the headphones are on your head or neck. Based on this, we assume that AirPods Studio will play or pause content when they detect being placed on your head. Neck detection can be used to keep the headset turned on while the music is paused, just like when you take just one of the AirPods out of the ear.


Additionally, the headphones are said to automatically detect left and right ears, routing the correct audio channel to each ear.

Finally, the site reports that pairing AirPods Studio with your Mac or iOS device will unlock custom equalizer settings with 'low, medium, and high frequency adjustments'.

In a report last month, Bloomberg also shared some information about Apple's over-ear headphones. The site said prototype designs feature ear pads and headband padding that attach to the headphones' frame magnetically. This would let users easily replace these components as they wear. It could also let owners customize their headphones and convert between premium and fitness use.
