Apple Acquires AI Video Startup 'Vilynx' [Report]

Apple acquired AI video startup 'Vilynx Inc' earlier this year, according to a new report from Bloomberg. The Barcelona-based company specialized in advanced artificial intelligence and computer vision technology.

Vilynx had developed technology that could analyze video and generate smart tags to describe its content.

Sources say the deal was completed for around $50 million and Apple 'confirmed' the acquisition with its usual statement.

“Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans,” the company said.

It's suggested that Apple could use the acquisition to make videos in your camera rolls searchable.


About 50 engineers and data scientists from Vilynx will remain at Apple, including co-founder and CTO Elisenda Bou-Balust. Additionally, Apple will reportedly keep Vilynx's Barcelona office and turn it into an AI research and development center.
