WhatsApp has launched a native app for Apple Watch, giving users a new way to stay on top of their chats without needing to pull out their iPhone. The new experience brings several highly requested features to the wrist for the first time.
You can now see incoming call notifications, read full messages, and even record and send voice messages directly from the watch. The app also adds the ability to send quick emoji reactions. Images and stickers are now clearly viewable, and users can see more of their chat history on the smaller screen. The release follows several other recent updates to the app, including support for Live Photos on iPhone and a new in-app translation tool.
Features ● Call notifications: You can see who's calling without needing to look at your iPhone. ● Full messages: You can read full WhatsApp messages on Apple Watch — even long messages are visible directly from your wrist. ● Voice messages: You can now record and send voice messages. ● React to messages: We've added the ability to send quick emoji reactions to messages you receive. ● A great media experience: You'll see clear images and stickers on your Apple Watch. ● Chat history: You can see more of your chat history on screen when reading messages.
WhatsApp says this is just the beginning for its Apple Watch experience and that more functionality is planned for the future. As always, the company notes that personal messages and calls remain protected with end-to-end encryption.
The new WhatsApp app requires an Apple Watch Series 4 or later running watchOS 10 or later.
You can download WhatsApp Messenger from the App Store for free.
