Iphone 4 upgrading from 5.0.1 what should i use to jailbreak ?

I have my ipnone 4 jailbroken and it's on 5.0.1 being a bit of a numpty and not wanting to mess anything up i was wondering what are my options for upgrading my firmware? i don't want tethered. can i upgrade straight from my version to the latest jailbreak i can find or do i have to do it in stages of firmware upgrades? Also what is the most sensible firmware to go for? All advice will be gratefully received :)
